"ROXY" RETURNS TO NASHVILLE!
It Don’t Mean A Thing if It Ain’t Got That Swing, and "Big Daddy Cool & The Swing Kittens" return to Nashville May 6, 7, 13, and 14 at the Madison Art Center to prove it. For the past five years award-winning actor, singer and magician John Pyka has been producing the "ROXY" series of critically acclaimed musical reviews that have toured all over the south east US. In May, the new show "A Night At The Roxy" makes it’s stop in Nashville at The Madison Art Center in the heart of historic Madison. "A Night At The Roxy" stars Pyka as "Big Daddy Cool," a swingin’ ex-gangster turned entertainer and night club impressario. Also joining Pyka are Cathy Street and Karen Burns as the "Swing Kittens" Honey Love and Mitzi Malone. "Roxy" re-creates the classic floor shows of 1940s night clubs. It blends hit swing music from the mid-20th century with high energy dance and super cool magic and illusion. "As I was researching the floor shows of the 40s," said Pyka, "I noticed that the shows almost always featured some singers, some dancers and a magician or other variety artists. That was perfect, because I am a singer and magicians and the "Kittens" sing and dance!" As a singer, actor and magician, Pyka has been seen on MTV’s Spring Break, A&E’s An Evening At The Imorov, and ABC’s The Boys Next Door. In 1998 he appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York as a vocalist with the New England Symphony. Tickets for "A Night At The Roxy" are $10 for adults and $8 for children (3 – 12) and seniors. There will also be a special $20 VIP ticket offered that will include a special pre-show reception that will feature the championship close-up magic of "Big Daddy Cool," As well as an after show wine and cheese "Cocktails With The Kittens" reception. "To my knowledge," said Pyka, "nobody else in Nashville has ever offered a VIP ticket, so this may very well be a first!" Show time is 7:30 PM for general admission, 6:30 PM for VIP tickets. To reserve ticket call the Madison Art Center at 615-868-8000. The Madison Art Center is located at 402 Gallatin Pike South, in the heart of historic Madison. |
