Man, oh man! I just got an advanced copy of Billion Dollar Bunko by Simon Lovell. It is a 422 page encyclopedia of eveything to do with swindling.
You want bar betchas and hustles? They are in there. You want bigger scams? They are in there. Crooked carnival games? You find in this book probably the most complete lay outs of this area of grift ever written. You want to know how Three Card Monte and the Shell Game are worked on the streets? It's all in here. What about cheating at cards? There's one hundred and twenty pages on this topic. Dice work is in there too. It's just a great book. Now, I have to tip to you that I had a hand in this thing. I wrote one of the introductions and a number of pictures are of stuff from my collection. There's even a photo of me talking the front of the sideshow in Coney Island. So, I may be a little less than objective about this book. This having been said, let me tell you that I have eagerly been waiting to see this thing in print for several years. When Simon showed me the manuscript, I flipped over it. I wanted a copy right there and then. The wait was worth it as L & L has done a great job on the production of this epic tome. It will be a long time before anyone puts out a better book on this subject. Actually, I don't think anyone will ever come close to matching the quality of Billion Dollar Bunko. Todd,
Just got my copy this morning. This is the FIRST time I have ever paid to have a book overnighted. I was just that excited about it. Let me say that it was worth EVERY penny. It is (to quote Max Maven on something that has nothing to do with what we're talking about) "a thing of terrifying beauty." You may be "a little less than objective about this book," but you're still right nonetheless. And after reading YOUR bar bet in the book involving "a thing no human has ever seen before," I'll count us even for the Fast and Loose.

My copy arrived this yesterday morning, a little under a week after ordering - which is not bad for intercontinental airmail.
I've not had time to read it yet, just a quick skim, but I think it's going to be an interesting trip... Thanks for the notice. Take care, Ian |

Urgh!!
Think I just answered my own question. This book has tons of info on the works but not the methods!! Should be a great substitute to those who can't afford the more expensive casino protection book by Steve Forte http://www.llpub.com/zenshop/index.php?m......_id=2174 check out the link for TOC.

I think according to what I read from the l&l page which I gave above, it goes into the setup, the speech required, etc. I just feel that if the sleights are included in detail, the book would be much much much thicker and more expensive
Anyway, can someone clarify if there are stuff taught in there like sleights, etc? Need to know before I place my order Thanks a million to whoever saves me from this unknowing agony!! cheerios

Looks just like you answered your own question. Sorry for the confusion but that is so funny.

What do people who bought the book think now that they've had it for a few days?
I'm thinking of ordering but first would like a more detailed view from someone who's actually read it. |

Saw the book and briefly looked through it on Monday night with Simon right next to me. The book looks great and there is a load of information.
Although I haven't read it from cover to cover, the sections on card cheating and gambling look very interesting and Simon explains things clearly using lots of photographs. I will definitely order this one.

Mine is on the way. Found one on e-bay but it was just as cheap to order it from L&L so I did.

Lots of fun to read. I worked a side show in my youth and it brought back many memories. After reading this you should never lose money at a carnival again because you will not be dumb enough to put up the money in the first place!!!!! I would love to see a 10 in 1 again---they were worth the money. Sometimes the magician was not drunk. The young one might have been me at 23--- 40 years ago.

I just got mine 3 days ago and am thrilled. While not a book to "teach" the methods and "instruct" one on how to perform all the cons, swindles, cheats and scams covered, it does give you insight into how all these things are done and how to keep from becoming the "mug" and being taken advantage of.
If these things are of interest, you will treasure this book. It is loaded with information and insight that would take the average person a lifetime to learn and understand. |
