Anneman was a genius. Goldstein is without a doubt one of the greatest( and for those of you who are unsure, you should see his early work ) George Kresge jr.- second best of all time. The greatest? Joseph Dunninger.

I always hate this question, because there are so many different measures of greatness.
As a creator and publisher, Annemann would certainly be top of my list, with Max Maven/Phil Goldstein, Bob Cassidy, and several others high on it as well. Dunninger, certainly from fame and public recognition standpoint would be a leader, likewise Kreskin, I could even argue Uri Geller. Hmmmm... maybe if you asked me for a list of the 100 Greatest I could manage... |

I nominate Derren Brown. Many who have seen him are convinced he is the real thing.

If you're talking about greatest of all time, what about the guys who ran the Oracle at Delphi. These guys had the power to control or influence the destiny of a country.
What about the shaman and the mystics? What about the ancients who could/would have done newspaper predictions if there had been printing presses? |

Derren is doing Geller stuff.
Everybody is doing Geller stuff. Everybody knows him. Like him or hate him, He did it big times. |

I don't agree that Derren Brown is doing Geller stuff. Mental card forces, spectators exhibiting synchronicity, automatic writing, thought duplication, ...
I don't recall Geller doing any of this.

The lay people don't recall Derrren doing something else.
I want to see the first lay person to say that he saw Derren doing Synchronicty and Automatic writing Everybody ask me: "can you bend spoons like Geller?" No one asked : can you duplicate my thoughts? Shimke |

Shimi,
Have Derren's shows been shown in Israel? |

Not yet
But many others : Paul Daniels, Uri Geller David Coperfield. And we had the locals : Lior Manor for many years, Ami Dayan, Twik Brothers and Ron Fershet (that does stuff from the Lior Manor early TV shows) I got a tape from a friend in England. Derren is very very good. Geller is something else. He is still the KING |

Well Shimi,
If Derren isn't known in Israel, it's hardly surprising that laymen there don't talk about him. Uri s well known here in Ireland and is doing a theatre show in November. I'll report it here. |

Hi,
I do not know who is the Greatest mentalist. However, if I stopped a hundred people in the street and asked them to name a mentalist I doubt that as many as 4 would know what the hell I am talking about. if I said psychic then I think most would think of URI. Phillip |

Just to be a wrench in the works, not only do I not know who is the greatest mentalist of all time, but I don't really care! We should study all those who came before us, and learn from their successes and mistakes. To attempt to arbitrarily name one as the "greatest" is, in my view, a silly academic exercise that just takes up time that could be better spent studying and improving one's own performance.
But, as Dennis Miller always says, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

Derren Brown has to be considered one of the best CURRENT well known mentalists. As for all time, I wouldn't know where to start.
