Is there a diference between velvet and velveteen. Also, Which do you think is better velvet/velvetee or felt?
Thanks.

Velvet can get a little pricey, having a wholesale connection or finding closeout's can help.
Felt is generally used on most gaming tables. Were I building a table, I'd use pool table felt because it's durable and comes in a variety of colors. Just about any material with a tight, even nap will work, but nothing beats a good run of the mill close up pad found at your local magic dealer.

Close-up-pad In this thread I asked about how to build a close-up-pad. Good ideas here! |

There are a number of factors that must be considered when 'building a Close Up Mat or Table. "Durability", how will the material hold up. "Work-Ability, how is the surface to perform on. Look-ability, does it look professional, or is it matted, creased or get spotted easily. Portability, How does the mat travel, is it easy to carry with you, without becoming 'dogeared'.
In the past few years I've gone to a poly-foam Material in my manufacturing of Close up pads and walk aroud "tables". It is easy to work with and has a rigidity that lends itself for 'hold outs'. Regardles of what material you use, take your time, plan every step and I'm sure you'll come out with a great performance mat. Wizzard
