I saw Dinky Gowen use these at MagiFest and it went over well. He had everyone in stitches.

I personally side with (the brilliant) Ronn Lucas on this:
http://www.thefamilyvent.com/cybervent/i......sk1.html Even if the idea of using a mask on a volunteer WAS 'invented' before he started performing it, after seeing him use it, why is anyone else even bothering to use or sell a similar prop? It's a signature piece for him and, as fellow performers, everyone should just work on doing something else. The guy has an awesome act and he's working Vegas! To paraphrase Rand Woodbury, regarding ORIGAMI copies: "The local rotary club would be just as happy seeing the Zig-Zag, so why steal another man's dream?" Blatant theft of another performer's material is wrong AND independently conceived ideas do happen innocently, who is to know which it is in SOME cases? If other ventriloquists would put the time and effort into trying to create something of their own, as Jim Barber has... http://www.jimbarber.com, they would be able to develop their own signature pieces that are totally unique. The same goes for magicians. I could make The Statue of Liberty disappear on TV but why would I do that, when it's already the thing David Copperfield is most famous for? I'm going to work on my own stuff. |
