And does anyone find a place that sells the refill for this trick? Please share the wealth.
Thank you Ken |

I don't get you guys. Alan Wong (the creator of Stargazer) offers help and you all ignore him and bleat on about the instructions.
Thank you Alan for the creation of a novel piece of magic that appeals across the board. The instructions are fine it's just that some people want an effect NOW and not have to actually work for it.

Stargazer is a wow with girls. Follow the instructions, you do not need any other help, it's all there. Close the windows and curtains, shut out all noise, direct a strong beam of light on the paper and just concentrate. Amazing how many can not get it. You must persist as it is a great give away. Geez... Guys... how do you usually patter for your stargazer. I know there's some thread that has some patter on it but I'm not comfortable with it. Till now, I still find no good reason to make the double star then blow it to become the star rubberband.
I like the effect a lot just that I need a good patter to make the effect even better. |

Pseudo, I suggest you do not use the gazer on its own, combine it with another band effect where you use two bands always keeping the gazer taught. That is what I do and they are really surprised when a band they have seen for a couple of minuites, changes shape.

I have a selection of coloured bands that match the stargazers. I always show the band to be normal in its relaxed state then switch out for the star.

In a last ditch effort I showed the instructions to some VERY educated friends of mine and none of them could figure it out. There are no sleights here, so it is all about deciphering the instructions. That SHOULD be easy. What this trick needs is either an instructional video or a clearer set of instructions. |

The key is step 4, there are many ways to do step 4, but if step 5 doesn't make the triangle like in the instructions do step 4 differently until step 5 makes the necessary triangle. Al

Thanks Al. If I remember correctly, the trick fell apart exactly where you indicated. I successfully made a star, but didn’t get the right shape when I removed the two fingers. I tried making the star several different ways, but never managed to get the triangle. Knowing that this is the key to everything, I think I’ll go back and fiddle with the bands some more. At least there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Thanks again, Elliott |

Grab the top of the triangle, twist your hand, and pull your fingers down, insert the two fingers by the bottom of the original triangle, and push the horizontal strand through with your thumb, and you will have the double star. I hope Al

Thanks Al.
I’m still working on getting from step 4 (star) to step 5 (triangle within triangle). I think this will be pretty helpful when I get to the later steps. Thanks again, Elliott |

Yes!! By trial and error I was able to finally get from step 4 to step 5. Things are looking good.

Got it!!!
You were right. Once you can get to step 5, the rest is straightforward. I think my points of confusion were twofold: 1) Defining the “Left Side” of the rubber band? 2) Paragraph 5. I kept on doing this wrong. I would place my finger under the star band and hook down the regular band in that little section where the two bands meet. This gives you the star, but doesn’t let you get to step 5. You have to go under the star band (on the left side of the regular band), over and around the star band and then pull down the regular band. Thanks, Elliott |

I paced the floor for three days mumbeling under my breath, I asked for help from anyone at the magic Café, and a nice man from the Phillipines walked me through the instructions. The bottom line is you have a two dimentional piece of paper trying to explain a three dimensional trick. Be sure to search all the other stargazer info at the Café now that you have the move there is much more you can do with it. Al

people want an effect NOW and not have to actually work for it.
Now you have worked with it and understand it can you see why you did not understand the instructions at first? There is a good reason why many of your first attempts failed. As the trick requires execution in the correct way or it does not work, you need too learn that way and do it correctly every time. The fact you were using most of your fingers too solve a 3D puzzle may have overloaded your brain (seriously) and caused fatigue and thus confusion. Now if you read through the instructions after learning the trick you can't see what the fuss was about. I dare you to try and make a set of drawings/instructions that describe this trick in a clearer way.

I always follow Crazy Man's Handcuffs with Stargazer so, after CMH, my patter goes like this:
"Here's something even stranger. Did you ever play Cat's Cradle when you were young with bits of string? You remember, you could make different shapes. Well, you can do the same with rubber bands. Here's a little man" (first shape), (release to second shape) "Here's his Y-fronts". (Go into 3rd shape) "Look - modern art, a triangle within a triangle." (Go into final shape) "... and now Renaissance art - a star; and if you look closely you will see that it is inside another star. But here is the strange bit. If I blow on it and stretch it," (pulling the bands about a bit) "and take my fingers out - it becomes a star." (Show star band dangling off the other band.) "Here, a little memento for you." Not sure if this plays the same outside the UK. I had no trouble with the instructions. Martin |

Anyone who has had trouble with this knows where things went wrong and what little ambiguity in the instructions led them astray. In my case, I would only have to clarify two small portions of the instructions. On the other hand, other people may have there own difficulties. Therefore, if I were marketing this trick I would definitely include an instructional DVD or at least a link to a video download. I’m convinced that such a tool would allow virtually anyone to master this trick in under 10 minutes. I would also include the following: 1) A few regular rubber bands that match the colors of the star bands (to facilitate CMH) 2)Some patter ideas Thanks, Elliott |

Then you should market your own products.
