GREAT idea. I'll start a new thread TJ Hi, I use a mixture of Doug Dyment and Al Smiths excellent works on telling people their Zodiac sign because some people used to be unable to spell their sign I give them a card with all the correctly spelled names on it. BUT (using Magician's License} I'm not calling that a prop. LOL Does anybody know of any other stuff that can add to these 2? I get great reaction to them, but if possible better is better Does anybody know of any new stuff or subtleties? TJ |

If someone is both suggestable and really interested I have occasionaally used hypnotic effects . Something safe . I recently followed a star sign with setting up some finger signals and asking questions that I thought they were O.K. revealing . It was totally impromptu and a crowd started to gather to watch someones hands in wonder. She was also giving off a less obvious signal that could have been used for apparent mind reading but I sensed one of us was not comfortable with the crowd so I checked she was O.K. and did a D.B. style dissappearence {i.e. Look enigmatic and wander off ! }

Dyment’s zodiac routine is superb. It really pays to memorize his script. On the other hand, you can do it immediately over the phone. In fact, it’s the strongest phone effect I know.
Thanks, Elliott |

Hi Slim King. Doug's book is great. He is a member on the Café so you can look him up, he is very helpful and his site has a lot of info on it
Cheers TJ Quote:
Hi Roki. That sounds great, if only I knew what you mean. It's a bit too D.B. i.e enigmatic. LOL Please explain a bit more detail of what you do Cheers TJ |

If you are interested in a tried and tested Star sign revelation method you could always check out my work "DreamSigns" available from magic-notes.com. This works on a genuine use of body language (similar to what is mentioned in the above post - it seems.)
Works on a different principle to Dougs fantastic work (which you should certainly purchase if you are interested in these kinds of effects)- but I am a strong believer in knowing at least 2 different methods for any effect you perform. I've had some wonderful feedback from Mentalists using this. Like Dougs work it is truely impromtu when commited to memory - however unlike dougs work, this is not based on the PA methodology. Hope this helps. |

Just a quick note, I have used Daniel's Dream Signs with great success in the past. It is one of those thigns which I keep in my arsenal for those moments where I am caught off guard.
Luke Jermay's pulse stop is another, you could do a part of Richard Osterlind's Watch Routine. If you are interested in no prop stuff I highly recommend Ted K's No Prop Nightclub Act. Best, Kennedy

Sign Language can be done over the phone, but it's stronger in person as you can use body language to good effect.

I use his system, but have chnaged the language to what works for me, which is what Daniel himself suggests. So I learned it his way forst and then played around and made it work for me. Its very clever though because you are doing what many peol say they are doing, but yo do it for real, you really are watching for clues.

They are ideomotor phenomenon like hand levitation or catalepsy. You can also suggest the subject has their own subconscious signals which may be subtle head nods or other involuntary movements . They can be set up quickly if the subject wants to cooperate and Produce a dual state where they are both giving you direct unconscious answers AND feeling like it is not themselves answering . The pendulum is another well known version of this. Does that explain my example? |

Hi Roki. I understand perfectly. I have had training in Covert Hypnosis and obviously you are well skilled. Great thinking and Real Mentalism. I'll have to start thinking. LOL I have used the signals on a few rare occasions and find the nods better for me than finger signals. After a star sign would be a perfect time to go to a deeper level. I'll try going for some work at that level during a Tarot reading. Can you tell us what sort of Questions you ask.
Thanks for the reply, It has started a whole way of thought for me Keep up the good work TJ Hi Kennedy. I have been thinking about Dream Signs for awhile but now I'll get it. Thanks for the advice Cheers TJ |

I don't have a routine for this . It has occurred somewhat spontaneously when I got a certain look and feeling. Its probably what is described as noticing the everyday trance and feeling a rapport and ease with someone.
I cant say I have the skill to make this happen reliably but I find certain people seem to be asking for it.(I mean that in a nice way!!) This is something that Im exploring and isn't ready for an act . Although I'm sure there are many who could do so . To answer your points . I think many magic/mental effects can quickly produce a form of trance often quicker than hypnotic induction . At this point a gentle questioning using indirect hypnotic suggestion can amplify the state whilst seeing what they are up for so to speak.e.g. "Curious ,when you find that feeling increasing , isn't it?" I find that for a public situation some people are ready to trance out and others juust aren't. When I have done this my yes/no questions have been entirely to explore what might be interesting and safe in that situation I.e. Mainly good things about yourself you didn't know you knew! I f the signals are almost invisible to others around I have once or twice asked a question as a mind read knowing they would enjoy letting just me know the answer and feel good that I could know without them speaking it . I really don't know if this qualifies as mentalism but Im hoping to find ways to combine these areas and would welcome suggestions myself. |

Just bought Daniel's Dream signs.....downloaded and read. Will take a bit to work out the slight details, but his method is on target. This is an intermediate level trick with what proves to be maximum results. Use the cheat method and you will be doing it next day. Thanks for the notes Daniel...keep them coming!

Great post, in fact, too great. I'll PM you later TJ Hi Sludge. Here are the details that I have in my book, Al Smith The Caidoz Effect APY Publication Alabacus Press Yorkshire, England (I do not have a town or city) The reason I put this here is that somebody might have the town or city. Sorry I can't be of more help. Perhaps a search on the author or effect might help, I remember some discussion on this some time ago on the Café. Again, apologies Cheers TJ Hi Sludge. I turned the next page and there was a full contact address Al Smith c/o Abacus House 17 Osbert Road Rotherham South Yorkshire S60 3LD England Please post results on this thread so that anybody else can read it. I would suggest getting Doug Dyment's first it is easier to get and practically identical If you like the idea send for the Al Smith one or the Daniel Love ebook. Perhaps somebody who has the Dream Signs book will compare it to the other 2 or even one of them. Then we can have a fuller picture of what is available Al and Doug's books are brilliant and the 2 together add to the effect and ABSOLUTELY propless and impromptu Cheers TJ |

I was very impressed by Daniel Love's "Dream Signs."
To me, it is THE mentalism. With a slight modification, you can apply it to ANY LANGUAGE. |

Teejay, thanks for the reference.
I have Doug Dyment's Sign Language and Daniel's Dream Signs. I also have other versions by Banachek, Grismer, Kurtz, Ingram, Rayot, Nu etc. I guess you could say these kind of effects are my pet obsession. Daniel's work is great and underpriced imho. Doug's work is the best publication on PA effects you can get. Top notch stuff that will be easier to get to grips with for a less seasoned performer. Dougs booklet also has more detailed instruction for these kind of effects in general. Personally I currently combine ideas/techniques from both (and other ) sources. |

A great source for an impromptu PK effect would be Banacheks Psi Series. He has an effect on his DVD where, using the powers of his mind he is able to move a pencil, while it rests on a table.
Best, Kennedy
