I find it a littly hypocritical...
HL don't want to be involved with magicians, they just want to be stand alone manipulators.... De'vo published stuff in Genii Magic Magazine Jerry is gonna be on MAGIC broadcast. De'vo is selling his products on Ellusionist, a MAGIC company. Not trying to start a fight but if they need help by magic companies to bring XCM forward, I think you should respect magicians, and help magicians out as well. I feel it's the total opposite, like "You advertise us, but we don't want to acknowledge you except to insult." But I will listen for sure as I like Jerrys stuff.

Wow, this is great! Can't wait to see (technically, HEAR) what the flourishman (or is it now XCMman?) has to say. Cestkowski kicks so much butt, it ain't even funny. Or maybe it is, as long as it ain't yours

Grrr....harwin. xcmers aren't mad with magicians m'kay? we are just the type of people if, you screw with us.....well take you out(lol). but if youre nice to us....we'll show respect and not be mean. its just that many a time its been a magician who comes out and calls xcm stupid. but...im sure that the people that jerry is doing the interview with are the type that he respects, who havent ever insulted him. and ellusionist I remember de' saying that he appreciates brad a lot for helping him so much. also, if you look on handlordz, you'll see that many of the xcmers on there are formally magicians. were we mean to them? as long as they showed respect...no. also, if a group of magicians reaches out and actually shows some interest in what were doing, and wants us to do a show for them...then so much the better! its not like were going to tell them to **** off and stop talking to us. its pretty cool actually that they have heard people say that were out of control maniacs, but I beleive that once they get to know us and see how we see, then they might learn to share respect for oneanother.

It was the radio that invited them and Jerry said yes, just to make it clear.
The radio wanted someone from the XCM community. Selling De's products is a great deal, business like. we don't hate magicians or magic or magic communities, we just hate that ppl say what we do is magic, or just a form of magic, since it's not. That’s why we get all the discussions. Anyways Might bea little of topic now, so I'll stop. deal is. A lot of magicians use manipulation in their magic, either pure manipulation moves or mystical/magical manipulation moves (like the flipback vanish) that’s why De' sells his DVD's to magicians, cus they like to use manipulation in their acts. This way he makes money on magicians (that use the moves in magic = flourishes) AND pure manipulation performers (XCM). So why is it wrong that he sells his stuff in a magic shop? It isn't We don't want to cut ourselves off from the magic comunities, we just want to get rid of the "magic" label. So that's basicly.. sort of.. what I mean. If you disagre please say so so I can correct myself if you really realyl hate what I said, just send a PM so we can keep the bashing of the boards Thanks |

Alright, I see.
CaCo, I will tune in the show as I like Jerrys stuff and all of it basically can be used in magic, plus I like pure manipulation too, even thought I'd never call it Xtreme Card Manipulation as my spectators would laugh their butts off.

I've thought and read through this post many times..
XCM does work great on people who are interested in it or someone who wants to see your skill. Magic and flourishing is a great anytime, anywhere kind of thing. Your not showing off, you just want to give someone some amusement. Flourishing is an art form, and so is XCM, and I think the 2 are the same thing. Doing things with packets of cards that's is awesome to see. Jerry will be great on magic broadcast. His book is amazing and it will be great to hear him.
Stick to the classics,

I find it interesting that De'vo and the HL crew tend to be the most adamant that their art is XCM, not flourishing, yet they are highly associated with Jerry "The Flourishman" Cestkowski, who wrote the Encyclopedia of Playing Card Flourishes. Even in the introduction of his book, Jerry says that a card flourish is a stunt, and not a card trick. He makes the distinction that card tricks are magic effects, while flourishes are not.
Yet, I see many people in the XCM/Flourish area constantly saying that a Flourish is magic-related. There are just too many discrepancies here. I've even seen De'vo refer to Jerry as an XCM artist. If Jerry is the Flourishman, wouldn't that make him a magician, not an XCMer according to the XCM definition? Because of these differences, the only thing I'd call XCM are moves done by De'vo himself, since that's what he wants his work to be called. For me, there are magic tricks, and then there is the field of flourish/XCM/whatever you want to call it. It's the same thing as the flight attendant/stewardess debate. It doesn't matter what you call it, it's still the same job. I feel like the card manipulation world would be better off if they spent less time worrying about what people call them, as used that time practicing and performing. After all, what's in a name? The fact of the matter is that most lay-audiences will see fancy card moves and immediately think that you can do magic tricks, even if you do not. They will invaribly also make the comment "I wouldn't play cards with you!" even if you have no idea how any gambling games are played. I have a lot of respect for people in all fields of card handling, be it magic or manipulation. Both require skill and dedication and are impressive to watch. I'd love to tune into Jerry's appearance on the broadcast that night, sadly I am busy at that time. Kevin

The terms have changed over the last years. As XCM developed, flourishing becomes more of a word that is used to refer to magic, but when the Encyclopedia of Playing Card Flourishes was written, things were very different.
I am away and will be so until late July. I will have a chance to read the forums, but I will be pressed for time, and unable to read every thread. If you feel a thread requires my attention, please PM me with a link. Thanks, and have a great summer. :

Nah, they wouldn't but I wouldn't call it anything, its up to them to pick a name for it if they think a name is neccesary. I am not gonna go "Look this is Extreme Card Manipulation" and try to make them tell their friends they say Extreme Card Manipulation, its never going to happen. Cuts rule btw, but fans and springs and dribbles and displays and aerials and such are nice as well.

Wow Ill say it once and Ill say it again. Just the fact that this conversation is still going on proves the fact that Devo is not only talented but a marketing genuis. Controversy about this art and all the haters have only made XCM bigger and bigger. Me pesonally my hats off to the whole community of XMC for there very very strong support of it. I only wish the magic comunnity was this way, a true brotherhood like it was ment to be. Ill be lisening that's for sure.
