Paid for. I'm not a pirate. (takes off eye patch and puts parrot back in cage) ARRRGGH matey, Give me a little more credit or you'll walk the plank. Smile Just messing around with you Jack. I do understand your concern bro so it's all good. It's just that after reading the reviews my curiousity got the best of me (as it always does) and I had to get it. I have been spending a lot of money since joining the Café sometime back, so it has been a blessing and a curse all in one. I'll admit, I'm one to jump on the proverbial "bandwagon" and when I heard the buzz, I bit. And, I'm sure I will again in the very near future.

I'm just curious as to what he might say about this whole discussion as everyone has their own reasoning as to why we should or should not use billets. I would just love to hear his excellent professional advice as well, seeing as I am learning several of his methods that so far are tried and true.

Tried and True for sure... I think one reason some don't like billets (therefor claim they are "outdated" rather than saying it isn't their style or whatever) is that much billet work takes a little skill and a lot of guts.. Doing a billet act is NOT for the faint hearted... The first time you do it...I just seems like the audience can see right through it...then you are kind of shocked at the audible gasps and strong applause.. It is indeed gustsy stuff.

On what web site?

I have two domains and over 100 pages spread over several servers.

Please provide a link if you want me to make comment on it.

It is indeed gutsy stuff. Even more so when done properly it can be devastating! I am not sure why there is an argument - it either fits your style or it doesn't. If there was a single right way we would all be clones of some great mentalist archtype.

Then I would assume that by your non-comment on the rest we are in agreement?

Still waiting for the link also.

And on a totally unrelated subject. Does the radio station you work for do an internet broadcast also?

Boy I love the Café.....

Tonight I did the usual Q n A billet routine. Sometimes I don't know which is stronger, BCS or billet work. A fancy group of clientle at my usual strolling gig.

AFter one Q n A and 3 BCS effects, I'd have to go with Q n A cause one feller just couldn't follow instructions.

Please keep this thread going Smile Good natured ribbing is good for billet workers Smile

I understand both points of view. Writing on a 'billet' is what Henning Nelmes called a 'departure.' But doesn't most every mentalism/ mental magic demonstration have a departure? We are not reading minds for real, after all. Isn't a great portion of the art being able to cover up or justify the departure? If we could read minds we would just pick anyone and say "think of anything," and then we would tell them what they were thinking. That would be amazing to that person any way. The audience might just think that you merely got some sumissive person who was prone to just agree with anything you said; someone that would not embarrass you in public. Or, on the other hand, even though you might be dead on, a smart aleck might say, "no. You were wrong..." just to embarrass or discredit you. I think if I were a 'genuine' thought reader, I would WANT them to write things down, so I could better prove my powers and guard against someone forgetting or lying about what they were actually thinking. Similarly, how entertaining would a headline prediction be if the demonstrator merely held up the day's paper and said, "Here are today's headlines and I did, by the way, know what they would be two weeks ago..." Not impressive at all. But when the prediction was written down and the written paper has been in the possession of someone else for two weeks... that is bit more impressive. So writing things down can make an effect stronger, or it can look suspicious, it depends upon the presentation. In sum, having thoughts written dow on a 'billet' is a departure, and needs a presentation to make its use logical. That's my view and I'm stickin' to it!

Mark,

Does that mean you are incapable of response and are hiding?

It is easy to snipe and hide.

Do you have a real name and web site?
At least Rick and I post ours.

People know who we are.

They know what I am.
But who are you?

Rick may not get on well with me but at least we all know he has an opinion based on experience.

Explain yourself and you posts.

I think Rick will agree with me on this.

LOL - you guys are all crazy! But here's a "serious" question: if someone enters the room a few minutes after you have started the routine, do they simply see a man reading pieces of paper, and answering the questions written therein? Does this suddenly turn from mentalism to a self-help workshop, where the fellow onstage is now telling people about their problems, or their daily activities?

And, when you're done wondering, here's another one for Rick: how do you "justify" your one-ahead when you work? Obviously, you are not p*lm**g dozens of slips all at once, so when does the "dirty work" occur? PM me, if you wish...

Thanks again!
