Hi all, I have just started doing the CT from AOTP, to a relative novice like myself it seems very clever and offers advantages over other methods I have seen.
Are there any pro or semi pro guys using this tear? I would be glad to hear what you all think. Regards Alan http://www.alanzmuzik.com Home of the worlds only mobile Pianobar. |

Hello Alan,
The CT is a very powerful weapon in the armoury of a mentalist. I am doing the move since my childhood and in the meantime it became "second nature". So I can do it at all occasions, even surrounded by the audience. In my book "Paramiracles" I wrote an article about it (see page 93 ff "Dissertation on the Center Tear"). As with all seemingly effortless effects, it isn`t easy, to put the whole sequence over to a crtiticalaudience. You MUST patter fluently and believe me, it takes a couple of years, until you can do it successfully, that it looks like the "Real thing" to the most critical audience. In some situations it has his drawback, but if you do it seemingly impromptu in front of a group of newspapermen it is very hard to beat. Sometimes I even close my show with it. Often I do it in front of an audience of 2000 (!) people and every time it is a sensation. If you need professional advise, let me know and I try to help you as good as I can. Good Luck! TED LESLEY

Ted, could you give any tips on how to do CT in surround environment?

hi,
For doing the CT surrounded I use something, which I call "natural cover". That means in cold print: You have to talk constantly. It isn`t easy to explain on paper, you have to see, what I am doing under the most difficult conditions. It isn`t a thing, which you can do "five minutes after you have read the instructions", the MOVE yes, but putting it over to the audience, using the "natural cover", takes you years and years of practice. If you start showing the slightest nervousness during the performance of the CT, you will be "catched" immediately. As with all good and easy looking things, you must have the guts to do it! Maybe I´ll make a video of the CT in the future to show the student all the "ins" and "outs" of the trick. If you are a great showman, you will "go away with murder" and that´s it all about. Nice, that you listened to me! TED LESLEY

It is so great to hear from a sage, that an effect can take years to do correctly, a move can be learned in minutes and the delivery can take years.
The best piece I do has to do with a cystal ball and pure suggestion, no trick involved. It is the delivery of the patter that makes the magic. But it takes guts to deliver it correctly. But since there is no trick, it can't be figured out or solved. It is real magic. I revealed it to a close magician once and he couldn't believe that there was no trick and thus couldn't appreciate it. I would love to see Ted's do a video on the CT. A great CT is Art, not a move. |

Dear Codex Reader:
The last sentence in your mail above IS the Secret. The successful presentation of the CT is really an art. Thanks for your comments. TED LESLEY
