Now you can get all of Gardner's Mathematical Games columns from
Scientific American on a single, searchable CD.

If above link doesn't work, try this:

Such a deal!

I suspect Jack and Scott already have many--if not all--of the Gardner
books contained on the CD.

Their excitement over this e-anthology (of anthologies) is an indication
of how much they enjoy Martin Gardner's Mathematical Games columns.

If you haven't been exposed to this material before, get to your local
library and check out some of books contained on the CD. The titles
are not hard to find; most libraries have many of the titles in their
collection.

Sorry for the "preaching to the choir." If you're reading posts in
Magical Equations, it's highly unlikely that you're not
familiar with Gardner's output. The complete Mathematical
Games for under $60? Can you believe it?

Amzaon's got it here: http://tinylink.com/?aC2cFQfGuv but the four used copies they have listed are selling for as much or more as the new ones!

And the only used copy listed on Abebooks is priced at DOUBLE the price of a brand new one: http://tinylink.com/?McAXXpqiCR

Slim,

By the "Math dudes", are you referring to the MAA page that stanalger listed (i.e., https://enterprise.maa.org/ecomtpro/Tims......at=table )

If so, I went onto that page and I could not find a way to become a member. Apparently the member price is $49.95 and the non-member price is $62.50. Were you able to enroll into MAA, and if so, what did it cost to do so?

Thanks for the info.

Mike

I do not have the CD and I do not know if this is just a scan of the books or is it fully searchable. BUT you could get all the books for around the same price Hardcopy and scratch proof...
most go for 1-4 dollars a piece in used book stores or you can try abebooks.com
I believe there are 15 in total but I am not sure

here is the list of all I think:

- The Scientific American Book of Puzzles and Diversions.
- The Second Scientific American book of Mathematical Puzzles and Diversions.
- New Mathematical Diversions.
- The Numerology of Dr. Matrix.
- The Unexpected Hanging and other pmathematical diversions.
- The Sixth Book of Mathematical Games from Scientific American.
- Mathematical Carnival.
- Mathematical Magic Show.
- Mathematical Circus.
- Wheels, Life and other Mathematical Amusements.
- Knotted Doughnuts and Other Mathematical Entertainments.
- Fractal Music, Hypercards and More
- Time Travel and other Mathematical Bewilderments.
- Penrose Tiles to Trapdoor Ciphers.
- Last recreations

I never thought of that...but shipping 15 books from Amazon would be almost $60 in itself. Smile

I did find the membership info, and to join at the most basic level is at least $150+/year, so you probably won't want to join just to save $12.50 on the CD.

I have access to a number of the Gardner books in mint condition, if you are looking for one in particular let me know. In the mean time I'll try to get a list together of the math magic books in this collection and if there's interest I'll pass it around.

Out of all of those links, only the last one to Amazon.com is working. Could anyone update them? I'm interested in Gardner's books.
