I've been working on an effect where a penny grows in size from standard size, to dollar size, to jumbo. It's an effect that a friend of mine taught me. The problem is, I don't have a dollar sized coin right now. I need some advice. At my local magic shop, I found a dollar sized penny for 15 bucks. Well, I already have a jumbo coin, but I could get the whole "dishonest Abe" effect for 15 bucks (which is a similar effect to the one I want to do.) Does anyone know of anyplace online where I can buy an inexpensive dollar sized penny since I already have the jumbo (and a mini for that matter) If I can't find one for less than 8 bucks or so, I'll probably just go with Dishonest Abe. Thanks in advance for any help.

To be honest no, most of the Dollar size pennies out there are not made from real copper, they usually just have copper paint on them which eventually tarnishes and are generally pretty crap. Todd Lassen has some exquisite Dollar size, real copper coins check them at http://www.toddlassen.com They won't however be conducive with an American penny growing in size because of their origin.
Best Bet: Dishonest Abe. That way you can do a transposition with a magnifying glass too Best, AK |

I would go with the Dishonest Abe set as well. The coins are pretty good and you can't really go wrong for 15 bucks. I picked it up at a magic auction, I didn't need the jumbo either so I threw it in my golf bag. Makes a good gag ball marker.

For those of you who have Dishonest Abe, are the coins pure copper? Otherwise, what kind of quality are they? It is true that my jumbo penny has gotten scratched after doing a trick for my niece and nephew and having them stab the thing hard repeatedly with a pen (without my permission of course- oops.) I could probably use another jumbo coin, but Frank, I PMed you and might consider getting it from you. Let me know.

Brad Burt has the best dollar sized Penny available. It is called the Sudbury II. Go to http://www.magicshop.com and do a product search. It retails for $35.00 and is a beautiful coin!

Ditto to what Paul just said. It's the best that's currently available...I bought two!

The Dishonest Abe coin was designed by Greg Wilson, and has built-in lines that are pretty funny. But isn't it half dollar size? Is that an issues for you?

I would love to find a decent half dollar sized penny. All the ones I've found either have a horrible portrait of Lincoln or silly gags printed on them.
I use them for Dingle's Inflation effect. One of the best spellbound effects ever printed. |

Curtis, I thought it was a dollar sized penny, but I could be wrong. If it is a half dollar sized penny, is it a good one? The ones I've seen also have a terrible picture of Lincoln on there which does not even look like the one on a real penny. Anyone have this effect and know for sure? Thanks

If I recall correctly...the penny that comes with Dishonest Abe is larger than a half...smaller than a dollar sized coin. Mike |

Dishonest Abe comes with both the coins you need, and Gregory Wilson has a lot of good patter ideas. It's a good bargain for $14.95. The coins are of fairly good quality too.
If you're interested, I have a version of Dishonest Abe with fun tongue twisting patter loosely based parody on the "copper clapper" routine by Johnny Carson and Jack Web. I would be happy to PM that to you if you wish. PS. I always like having back ups for my coins. Buy the D.A. routine and you get an automatic back up for your jumbo coin.
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

It's been a long time, but I think if you do a search on google for Texas penny, or Texas size penny, or something along those lines you might find what you are looking for.
