I like the variety in presentaion and in card design. If the cards are reverse negative (or whatever it's called) and a person likes them and feels comfortable with them go for it. I do think it is a fad with the negative image, but I could be wrong. I bought some tally ho vipers and they're fine. I still use bikes though cause I can get them cheaper and in bulk.

David,
Wouldn't you consider yourself partial on the subject? You are a member of Team Ellusionist, after all. I think the matter deserves discussion just as any other prop we use in our magic. This one just seems to draw a line. It has a bunch of controversy surrounding it for two big reasons, I think. One, it's the most dramatic change cards have undertaken since I don't know when. And two, almost every magician in the world uses a deck of cards regularly. These are their life-line. It should be no suprise that they are the revolving topic in the magic community. I personally don't perform with Tigers, but even worse I feel are the gaff cards availible in the Tiger form. I hate it that people whip these cards out all over the place. Why are we reminding people that the USPCC is helping us trick them? The most gimmicky cards I use are the "Color Monte" set. If someone asks me where I got them, I tell them I made them on a laser printer. They always want to feel them afterwards, and feel that the designs are raised, therefore they are satisfied with that. I wonder what people would think if they became aware of all of the different gaffs availible professionally produced from the USPCC? So Kronos, what's up with my banning anyway?

Crenshaw: Conversations related to other 'happenings' concerning yourself and other places will never be discussed in public. Please don't ask again.
Secondly, everyone here KNOWS that I work for E, but you will also notice that I didn't say these cards were the most amazing thing since sliced bread. You will also notice that I said the cards only produce a marginally better memory retention in my effects. It means to me that it's not the tools, but it's the product the tools produce. These cards are preferential only. If you want to use them, then do it. If you don't, then by all means, don't. And whatever you do, don't ever think that because you don't or can't work with something, that other magicians must all be like you. I use regular decks, Black Tiger decks, gimmicked decks, one way decks, forcing decks, you name it. If I need to use a tool in order to perform my magic, then I use the tool I feel best suit's my needs. Not yours. David. |

As far as I am concerned, if you want to use a deck that looks gaffed (even if it isn't) then by all means, knock yourself out.
But this made me laugh: http://www.nls.physics.ucsb.edu/~nathanb/cards/bt.html |

I use Black tiger decks. My friend Barry ‘cool guy’ Jones told me about them. He had just come back from the annual comic book convention and had some cash spare so he picked up a pack. He rang me and told me to pick up a deck.
He said they were awwwwwww--sseerrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmm I bought them online for $30.I thought they were a bit expensive but when I received them I realised why. I opened the case and the deck went RAAWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. The deck was alive. Black tiger style!!!! I took them to school the next day and showed my friend Gordon smith who prefers to go by his street name MC wibble wobble. I performed 2 card monte by ellusionist and he said it fooled him totally. He knew how it was done with regular cards but I fried him with the tigers. All the girls came round and I looked soooooooooo cool. I have a girlfriend now as well so these decks rock baby! I am a member of team ellusionist and they all know what I mean by tigers being fly. SYBIL CUTS 4 LIFE! |

Oh man, that really had me wondering in the first couple of paragraphs. Funny stuff.
Alewishus, man from my understanding, allthe "Team" is, is anyone who collects a paycheck from Ellusionist. I'm not even sure how many of them are really talented magicians. I know that Jonathan Bayme, who is their Tech Support guy is freakin' good. He's I think 17 or 18 now, and he has a stage show that rivals Copperfields 1990 stuff. He has good stage presence, and has built quite a lucrative show from what I can tell by the value of the props I see him using. He lives in the South Carolina area, and I think he does shows all over the Southeastern US. There is another magician on the team that goes by ..::RT SHOWMANN::.. who is "Strictly Underground." I've seen a small clip of him performing for 1 or 2 people at a time and he looked pretty technical, but I've had performances that good before so it's hard to tell how good he is. In my opinion, the most talented guys there are the Moderators. The first name that pops into my head is Mike Delbert, or ..::MichaelMantra::.. the "Dreamweaver." Very cool and talented guy. There is also a member of the forums Eddie Colussi, or "sonicstabber". He's an Australian 16 year old that is more knowledgeable on the subject of card magic than anyone else I've ever met. I swear to you, this kid is rehearsed on card magic. He's very technical too, not a suprise given his knowledge. Eddie has become a great friend of mine, and I'm telling you guys, remember that name - he'll be releasing stuff in the future, good stuff. Ok, sorry for the "Team Ellusionist" background check. Other than that, I think it's just a bunch of employees with a cooler sounding name. Man that was funny. But seriously, do you think you could pick me up if your mom says it's cool?

I hate to be a pain in the @ss....
But I do like to help people think about making wise purchases.. Considering plain bikes are $1 at the price club, $6 for a deck that looks like a "trick deck" seems extremely expensive. Especially when you can get a "real" trick deck for 75 cents. If you stopped yourself from buying just 6 decks of black tigers, that would be enough money to spend on SEVERAL wonderful books on how to make your magic better or half way to a Tamariz or ramsay book. How many of you that have purchased these black tiger decks also have several of these... Carney's Book of Secrets Gary Kurtz - Leading with your head Ortiz - Strong magic The Ramsay Classics The Magic Way The Five Points of Magic Carney - Carneycopia Tubthumping The ramsay finale The ramsay legend Sonata The Workers' Series Closely Guarded Secrets If you do? Great. If not? It's something to consider. I suppose.

Can I ask a question here?
Well I'm going to anyway. Why do you (nobody specific in mind here) look down at people who own these cards like the are (for lack of a better term) noobs? The cards are cool, and ellusionist is the only place you can get them for a good price. I know ellusionist has a bad rap with some people, but are you hating on it cuz you hate ellusionist, or because you don't like the cards? Don't look down on people who use the cards. And what defines a trick deck? I've said it before, using a different design doesn't matter. Magicians seem to be under this delusion that everyone uses bikes, and everyone has a couple decks at home. That's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. Welcome to American, home of the dollar stores. Why would someone pay 2 bucks for a deck of cards, if they can get 2 decks for a dollar at the dollar store. They don't care about the finish, they don't care how well they glide over each other. They are just looking for something they can toss down on the table. We are entitled to use whatever cards we want to. And I think a lot of criticism about the black tigers is not very constructive. If you were making comments and suggestions about one's routine with the cards, then that's fine and dandy. 9 out of 10 people who own black tigers have never heard of Dai Vernon? That's a laughable statistic. Besides, when you started magic, how long was it until you heard the name, or knew who he was. That's irrelevant. Knowing who dai vernon was does not gauge how long someone has been into magic. I think David's post pretty much summed up my view as well. And guys, lay off ellusionist. Just cuz you don't like Brad Christian, or part of the Ellusionist team doesn't make it fair that you bash them. (If anyone is offended, I am truly sorry. However, I feel that truth must be spoken.)

Ask any one person in America over the age of 21 to name a deck of cards, and they're going to say "bicycle". That's my thing.
I thought the Vernon thing was pretty funny myself.

I have asked, and that's not really the case...people just wanna save money. And if cheap decks handled like bicycles you can bet that I would be saving money too...
