Danny,
It sounds hilarious - not for kids but an adult show or family venue would be great. No darker than the pile of feathers produced by Kole & Company when the flag is set at half-mast. Frank Tougas

I agree. But it kills! To me, it's a smart trick...to the audience, it's a killer diller. Beats me very time I do it. Again, today, it was a complete shaggin mystery to the audience.

I do impressions with face. Some outdoor shows, I have dupiclate pre-drawn balloon filled with helium in my table. I blow up balloon manually, draw face, and switch balloons as I get needle out of my table and when I try to push needle thru it, I release it to fly away. I remark "get back you chicken". |

This might belong in "The Cellar" but it is a needle through balloon routining. I am working on using this illusion for a Halloween/Horror show. I pre-tested it this year in a seemingly "improvised" setting. I tortured the balloon and as I pierce it with the needle by letting out blood curdling screams and pleas for mercy. It's what I envision a needle through the balloon routine would look like if Eli Roth performed it. I'm also going to experiment with the Voodoo needle to for some gore to the effect.
When I did this last night, I didn't do any setup. I just pushed the needle through the balloon in a very bland non-pattered delivery to some courtesy golf claps. Then I inflated another and let go the screams. Now people were wincing and averting their eyes. Those that watched were locked onto it. It's an idea I had in my head for a while now but never tried. Yesterday the timing was right. I had some of my props with me for small friends and family gathering where I did some things for the kids. But after they were away and just the adults were hanging out, I just started it and did did the routine. I think I'm onto something. My idea now is to introduce this as an experiment in what makes horror horror. I would the first normal method, as described, keeping it intentionally bland. I bring the audience expectations down. Then when I bring the second balloon out, draw a face on it, and go to 11 with the screams. This way will audience defenses are down and the horror version will be a shock with unexpected an blood curdling needle through balloon routine. At least that's my hope. I know this is not for everyone, but maybe it gives some ideas about how we can approach classic routines like this in different ways even if they are horrific to some.
