Along with magic, I'm a pretty avid reader to say the least. So if you're the same, or if you're looking for a really good mystery book to pick up...Grift Sense by James Swain is my recommendation.
For a short description, it's about a retired cop, who's a consultant for gambling. To say the least. Theres gambling/magic involved, and the author in case you haven't noticed already, is an accomplished magician/author. He also has 4 more books that are out, along with the first, that are all great. And if you're into that then may I suggest reading the entire Sherlock Holmes series. You can pick it up in two volumes for relatively cheap in paperback. I'm into non fiction, science fiction...self help books..anything really. Does anyone have a recommendation/favorite to share? |

First a warning. I am posting books I love, but I don't want ANY criticisms about the books or what I believe. We are magicians helping magicians and for this post to degenerate into a bunch of opinions (or facts as they see them) will cause us all to get into trouble and the topic banned. So in the spirit of "Magicians Helping Magicians" just know I am simply listing these books as requested as some of my favorites over the past year.
"Vanity Fair" by William Makepeace Thackeray "Vast Left Wing Conspiracy, The" by Byron York "Think A Second Time" by Dennis Prager "Happiness Is A Serious Problem" by Dennis Prager "China: The Gathering Threat" by Constantine Menges "Vile France" by Denis Boyles "Time Traveler's Wife, The" by Audrey Niffenegger "What I Saw In California by Wagon from Missouri in 1847-48" by Edwin Bryant "1421: The Year China Discovered America" by Gavin Menzies and I'm currently reading 2 books "The World is Flat" by Thomas Friedman "From Dawn to Decadence" by Jaques Barzun Just a small sampling of what I read...when not doing magic.

I'm a fairly conservative person, but I found The Communist Manifesto to be very intriguing reading. I won't criticise someone because he reads books by authors with controversial viewpoints. I may criticise someone if I find out he actually believes them!
The more you read, the more you know.

Check this book out it called The Houdini Girl by Martyn Bedford. Its about a magician who is entangled in a web of murder, prostitution, drugs, lies and love. Very good book and there is also a lot of magic in it as well.

I'm into the science fiction books. One of my favorite series at the time is the "Disc World" series. Some of the funniest things are in those books.
