I am now under the strong impression that Steve Fearson has become or maybe always has been some sort of cult leader...he is trying to bring about the end of the world with magic.
Check it out...very strange ideas, and a little disturbing to our industry. http://www.messiahschool.com

Looks like it could prove to be an extremely effective marketing gimmick. Seems a bit unorganized and underdeveloped at this point. If you decide to watch it, will you let me know how it develops, please?

Steve Fearson, in my opinion, is applying the old adage, "Any publicity is good publicity!" (Just think of Paris Hilton! LOL)

*nods and chuckles* My thoughts exactly. Any suggestions I might use in order to garner some media attention? *wink*

Misty,
I took a look at your site, all you need to do is figure out who Ms.Direction and you are going be (Paris or Nicole). Then travel all over the US and bungle every task! Very nice site, by the way. Congratulations and best wishes for your success! |

Thank you, Seance. Although the Paris and Nicole angle wasn't exactly what I had in mind... *grin*
Maybe this is one we should open up to the entire forum, and see what kind of answers we get. Hmm...

Cool site Misty. It looks like you have a great thing going for you. I would love to catch one of your shows. If you're ever going to be in the Ohio area, be sure to PM me as I would love to see it. Looks like a lot of fun and hilarity all wrapped up in one. Keep up the great work and welcome to the Café!

Devin Knight (magicbuilder at the Café) has tipped some outrageous stuff in the "Inner Thoughts" section, for those of you with access. The nice thing about his tips is that they've already been tied and tested. He still leaves a lot for you to figure out, but his approach is an education.
Of course, there's the Houdini model: Just be visible. Be everywhere. Show up at a fire, anything, so long as they spellyour name right. Becoming famous is a full time job.

It occurs to me that Fearson has been reading his copy of "The Shiels Effect". I think Doc would be proud.

*waves at everybody* Hi, guys - and thank you for the kind word, Phil. I will certainly post here when we're in Ohio. In California right now...
Please pardon my ignorance, but what are the 'station manager document' and 'The Shiels Effect'?

The Station Manager Document was Steve Fearson's last publicity experiment for what was basically a fair to middling drawing dupication. I really like the concept myself, but others found it a bit over the top.
The Shiels Effect is a booklet put out by Tony "Doc" Shiels and Invocation magazine back in the 70's dealing with how to market and create the next media super-psychic (this was in the days of Uri Gellar). Again, I think it's a brilliant piece of thinking. Anything by Doc that you can pick up is well worth reading. Mark

Misty,
It's going to be hard to find a copy of the "Shiels Effect" but worth it if you can get your hands on it. You might find one on ebay. Last time I looked they went for around $75, which might seem like a lot, but it's material that will get you thinking like nothing else. To borrow a quote from that wacko Boris Pocus (Jay Sankey), "It's like acid in your pants" (or something like that). The "Cantrip Codex" also by Shiels also comes up pretty often on ebay. It's the last book that Doc Shiels put out for magicians and is also great. The easiest to find, and one of my favorites, is just called "Bizarre" and is still being sold by Martin Breese. There are several others that Shiels has put out but these three pull together the lion's share of his thinking. I don't know if the Station Manager Document is still available but it stimulated a lot of chatter here. Just do a search for it and you'll find pages and pages of reaction, mostly negative. However, I think, and a lot of people are going to disagree with me, it's one of the most imaginative marketing schemes I've seen in a while. Mark

Steve is a smart guy! I have that same magician tarot card stuck on my wall. Actually I stuck the 'Wheel of fortune' with 'The magician' above it, 'the fool' opposite that below and 'The Star' and 'The Hermit' on the remaining sides. Helps me think.
Enough babbling, I thought you guys might be interested in this guy 'Phrophet Yaweh'. Here is a link to a post in Food for thought. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......27&0 |
