As regards to the thing up his sleeve. If you have a recording of the show take a look at the effect with the book of maps and the names of the streets etc,Notice how he keeps repeating aloud the name of the street or grid reference,I cant remember which exactly without looking again but slow the effect down and use logic and look at what he is doing with his arms.
Do not underestimate the lenghts these people will go to to make an effect seem impossible.

When you say 'these people' I suppose you mean us?

Are you fond of anagrams Dan Bivaldi?

I cant imagine why he would need to repeat the name loudly into his sleeve when the whole auditarium was miked from top to bottom

I'm with Daffyd and migwar. I too don't understand the sleeve thing. Besides, the method is null. Derren's performance is everything.

OK I cant spell it out any more,The sleeve thing is not to speak into,as you say the whole room is miked up(doh). But to LISTEN to his little assistant at the other end with the duplicate book looking through it as he keeps saying the grid reference or street etc. clearly out loud.
No what I mean by these people is working professionals on tv.
Also there is an E in blaine.

Like I said, in your own words, you've been "suckered". Derren leaves subtle clues to make people in the magic community think he is using a certain method. Similar to the psychology patter he uses with his mainstream lay audience. The actual method is much, much bolder and cleverer.

I perfomed a simple mentalist trick , impromptu , for a group of business acquaintences last night down the wine bar . They spent the next twenty minutes discussing how I could have done it , subliminals , NLP , gullible accountants ,wallets with trap doors . It was horrendous . I felt betrayed and exposed .
I now know how poor Derren must feel.
I urge you all to follow the lead of the up and coming west country mentalist
Devon Braine whose act consists of impossible solo card predictions whilst buried in a box 15ft underground . That all show 'em Devon my lovely.

Yes, "Rick" -

"The Art Of The Ear" by Gretta Chimpagnon. (1996) Harvard University Press.
It was gospel (etymologically "Godspell") to me - it can be so to you too.

Peek Performances and Peek Encores by Richard Busch are excellent but there are more 'underground' methods available. Look into the work of Alain Bellon and Gerry McCambridge.

Anyone got any thoughts on which clipboard Derren used during the 'Cat' drawing routine in The Gathering? Since Andy Nyman is a co-producer/adviser, could it be one of his creations?

Hi!
Does anyone knows any information about the white board that Derren used in the two digit number effect? I understand the principle but it's not easy to manufacture.
Thanx

You only need Derrens type if you want to casually show the board blank before the effect. Personally, I find this unnecessary, and the dirty work can certainly be done during an off beat moment during the show.

That said, it doesn't answer your question, so sorry.

I couldn't agree more.
I just think that the idea of the white board that Derren used is quite interesting. I can’t find any information about the manufacturer, it can always be an exclusive of course.

Thanks anyway Smile
