Which of these books should I get? Heard very good reviews on both books but I only have enough funds for 1 of them.
I know its sad but I have to make a decision Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Well that is like asking wether I should by a BMW or an Apple Mac? If you want to learn excellent magic effects you should buy Drawing Room Deceptions. If you are intertested in gambling history, card sharps, and early card magic history go ahead and buy the Annotated Erdnase.
On cannot compare them since they are so different. If you are interested (really interested) in both of them, you will end up buying both of them. The order does not matter much. Both of them require massive amount of dedication, countless of hours of practce. In fact, I believe one could spend the entire life with just these two books. |

Does this mean that Annotated Erdnase is more like a theory book with a bit of sleights here and there? Because from what I read, it's on sleights, routines, etc. Haven't heard of anyone mentioning that there are gambling history, or card magic history inside.
Thanks for the suggestions. cheerios

Just get the Dover Erdnase (very cheap) and Drawing Room Deceptions (quite expensive.) You can always get Annotated Erdnase later.

Annotated Erdnase is S.W. Erdnase's Expert At the Card Table but Annotated by Darwin Ortiz. You are, most likely, familiar with the original work, right? So what this adds is a study on Erdnase's techniques and improvements upon them. Thus, it formost and intellectual and advanced study of card magic, manipulation and card sharping rather than a magic book per se. Thus, I say it is more for those that have an academic interest in magic and are willing to fine tune techniques even when the effect would not be enhanced (does this make any since). If you want great tricks, go for the original or for Drawing Room Deceptions.

I think Drawing Room Deceptions is out of print, am I wrong?? But I have to say Guy Hollingworths' stuff is excellent. I really want to buy this book, but I spend far too much money on magic anyway and I can't find this book for sale any where. If you haven't seen 'The London Collection' you should get this too.

Hey pekka I was not writing a review. Vernon was all about Erdnase. And Vernon rules!!! Ask any magician worth his salt in magic. I saw Hollingworth on one of those magic specials. And that is what made me sell the book. If he couldn't even make his own magic look natural. Why would I try? IMHO

Is elegant natural? There are many natural things I do but they are not elegant, no not even Guy Hollingsworth would look elegant when he does them.

Annotated Ernase also notes several other resources for the sleights and effects that were available prior to it's publication.
