Hi everyone,
I'm getting desperate. I have used this effect in my show for the last twelve months or so. I have repaired my straw on numerous occasions but I think it is about to go to straw heaven. The person I bought from no longer stocks this and despite trawling the internet I am unable to locate it from anywhere else. I know its out there, I just can't find it. Please help if you can I need a new straw like now. I also am aware of appearing shovels, ladders and other large items from small bags etc. I would like to get something as well as the straw so I can vary my routine. So who makes/stocks these items. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Harry
If it ain't fun, it ain't worth it!

They seem to have an 8ft Appearing Pole, which has red markings that look very much like a straw. Hope that helps.

In a pinch, you can also use a plastic shower rod cover, available at hardware stores or dollar stores for $1. They're 4 or 5 feet long, thinner, but can do basically the same thing.

It is very simple to make your very own appearing products such as these.
I make all of mine and each costs about $3.00 They are not 8ft...they are actually 6ft, but still just as impressive... All of the required parts are availible at Wal-Mart. You just need a shower curtain rod cover, and contact paper...that is all I am going to say. The rest is just a few minutes of applying the paper to the cover. The item works the same way as all the other store bought ones. You can make a holder for it out of a small pringles can with a slit that you cut into the side of it. Then just apply velcro to the backside of the can and stick it inside a hat (if that is where you want to produce it from...(I just like to pull mine out of a drawstring bag or an paper hardware store bag.) |

Which are the most realistic: straw (4ft, 8ft), pencil, wand?
Which would get the best reaction from the chidlren: pencil, straw or wand? I do not have these items but my impression would be that the appearing giant pencil would be the most fun since children use the pencils throughout the day in school and at home for homework. You could sya that when you were a child, your tacher gave you so much homework that you needed a very large pencil to do all teh homework. You could ask the children if they get a lot of homeowrk. And of course they will all scream yes. You can ask if any child has a pencil with them. Some may show you their pencil. Then you could say something like, no, that is not big enough. I use to use a really big pencil to do my homework. Yo can look inside a paper bag and say, "Oh, I think I have one with me now" and reach in and pull out the giant appearing pencil. Michael Michael

All are impressive.
During my anti drug show, I had built a giant cigarette to produce for the moment that I am talking about what a BIG habbit smoking is and how hard it is to break, as well as what it can do to your body. |

Kyle,
Nice idea! I can just imagine the size of the lighter your produce to light it with! Michael

I have gotten outstanding results using my straw for both kid and adult shows. For my adult presentations, I have a giant foam Viagra pill which is added to a paper bag along with a McDonald's straw. Better lives through chemistry.
