I saw this effect on Mr. Leslie's site, houseofenchantment.com. Mr. Leslie produces many terrific items. In essence, To the Moon comes with a rocket ship, a Mission COntrol Head Quarters, a Silon a moon and a dark side of the moon. The rocket disappears from teh palce where is supposed to be and magically appears on teh moon. Has anyone purchased and used this effect? If so, I would appreciate your comments. After reading the story and routine, my initial reaction was that the routine had too many "sucker" parts. Also, the nature of the routine demands taht the children react in a specfic way during each phase of the routine ie. when the performer tells the children that the rocket is on teh moon, teh children have to respond that the rocket actually in Mission Control Headquarters. There are four phases where the children must respond appropriately after each phase for the next "sucker" phase to be effective. If you read the routine on Mr. Leslie's site you will have a clear understanding of what I mean.
My concern with this routine is that the children do not respond as they should after each phase of the routine is done. With a typical die box routine or similar "sucker" effect, the choices of where the particular item is or should be is normally limited to two places. In the To the moon effect, the possiblities of where the rocket actually is seem to be less restricted thereby giving the opportunity to the children to scream out places where the rocket is that is not in line with the routine. Am I thinking too much into this? Do you think the routine and "sucker" bits are good? Thank you very much. Michael

Just taken a look at the site and it looks like a rehash of Harry Stanley's Journey into space which used to be Marketed by Unique Magic Studioand later by Eddie Burke at Magictrix in the Uk.
Don't know if Mr Leslie has the rights to it now. As for Sucker elements - I think that if it is the only effect in your show that has the usual Turn It around screaming gags then it would be fine - and every kids show should only have one strong sucker effect otherwise there is a posssiblity of turning your audience against you - and has they say you can have too much of a good thing |
