The Chicago Tribune will be running a front page story on the work of Open Heart Magic this coming Sunday, June 5. Open Heart Magic is a recently created non-profit organization and charitable foundation that establishes and staffs bedside magic programs in hospitals to empower children. We’re based in Chicago.
This story has been six months in the making. A Tribune reporter, a fine close-up magician by the way, followed me around for about four of those months when I did my weekly service visits to Rush Children's Hospital. He also sat in on one of the initial training sessions for a new volunteer. It will be interesting to see his view of this world as some interesting things happened during these service visits. For more information about Open Heart Magic, you can check www.openheartmagic.com. Also, let me express special thanks to all of the Café members who have helped OHM by providing ideas for routines, framing and technique and insight on specific routine history. Special thanks to those who have also provided other support of this work and to the Café staff for creating a space where such a community can come together. |

I just checked out your website. This is awesome! Congratulations and keep up the good work. This really warms my heart to know that you guys are out there doing this.
Is there anything that will pull at your heart strings more than a sick or hospitalized child? Not for me. I applaud you guys and the work you are doing. Sometime we forget that there are good people around doing great things for others, like the folks at open heart magic are doing. I'm glad I saw this and am aware of it. Please keep it up and keep the smiles coming on the faces of those children. Vandy

Here's the link to the story. If you get a Tribune registration page, then just close the page, clear the cookies and cache from your browser and try the above link again. It should then work and the story should load. |

Thanks to all for the comments. I'm not above admitting that the whole OHM gang, especially Mike and myself, are proud of how far we have come. Mike is really the genius behind it all. The paterfamilias of this brain-child. Without his vision and tenacity I'd still be just some guy practicing bad card tricks out in the burbs.
I cannot begin to express how fortunate I feel to have been a part of all of this. However, that is outshined only by my excitement as to where we will be in the future. Thanks again, all! -Reis O'Brien |
