Subjective? Yeah, I'd say so. But intriguing too.
IMHO I've always been a big fan of the metamorphosis. Whether by Copperfield, the Pendragons or hey, even me. But is it the greatest of all time? I have an idea you'll all tell me otherwise. |

I would definatly say the Metamorphosis....
OR The Buzz Saw Illusion - Maybe it was just Copperfields performance of this illusion that holds my opinion |

I'd have to say the Blackstone, Sr. version of the Kellar levitation.

Sorry, I have to name three, because I can't decide on a number one.
- Origami, when performed with feeling. - Metamorphosis - Any version of "The Mystery Of The Three Ghosts" as described in Tarbell, Vol. 8 |

I would say Metamorphosis, Origami, and Twister, Modern Art (ZIGzag). You see the list getting longer.

I would say :
1. Impaled 2. sword suspension 3. And of course the "3 in 1" levitation ( I invented it and use it all the time ) |

Melinda did a nice "Sword Suspension". But, it always looks like the assistants are cranking someone on the gimmick. It is very hard to hide the "dirty work"

Metamorphosis and The Vanish of The Orient Express. For those that think I was going to say Statue of Liberty remember that the Express was pulled up and moved over audience members heads not simply still. Check it out again if you are able to.

The greatest illusion of all time is the illusion that there is a greatest illusion of all time.

Zig Zag illusion!!!
I have seen the original at the Magic Circle in London and it is just beautiful! and has to be the best version ever made! by Robert Harbin himself! this illusion paved the way for wheel on wheel off illusions as we know them! that my favourite trick ofr all time! Steve Dela |

The Death Saw was rated the best magic trick/illusion on the UK special, 50 Greatest Magic Tricks (or a name like that. I can't remember totally.)
I'd disagree. I think any form of levitation is the best type of illusion. Defying gravity has been a dream of mankind from the begining of time. Sawing your own girlfriend in half isn't something that people dream of doing. (At least I hope not!) Know what I mean? I have nothing against sawing in half illusions though, because I own a couple of them. Justin |

I have to agree with Justin in general and David Copperfield's performance of "Flying" on his specials in particular. The set with its angled clouds, the 360 degree camara work, the lack of any visible props - just Copperfield and the air - the "convincers" of the quadripal hooping and the floating in the sealed off cabinet, the flying of the girl from the audience, and leaving stage with the hawk joining him plus the comedy/romance set up and the lush music all combined to make this a master presentation of a magnificent and almost "perfect" illusion.

The greatest illusion of all time for me, to date, is Blaine's 80-foot pole-standing. WHY(!) you scream?
Because it was done so convincingly that even some Magicians think that it was pulled off unaided by pure endurance and willpower and nothing else. (Yeah, right!) (Not bashing Blaine at all, I'm kinda complementing him even by saying this. I love his "break- all-the-rules" approach btw.) My logic here is that with the other illusions stated before ("Flying","Death Saw","Zig Zag" etc.), ALL Magicians know they're just illusion but with this pole-standing thing, some will differ with my opinion that it was achieved with a gaff in the pole to facilitate Blaine. Now THAT'S an ILLUSION! No Masked Magician is even trying to expose this one as it was pulled of so convincingly as a pure feat of endurance. Not yet at least. So that's MY opinion. I know....I've said the "Blaine" word, now feel free to flame me! I love DC's "Flying" and "Death Saw" btw!

When Tony Spina removed the mid-section of a woman at an 80's Tannen's Jubilee. Later Henning performed it on one of his specials.

Doug Henning's Things That Go Bump In The Night, done to Circus themed music.
It was the only illusion I wanted to do for many years. I still haven't been able to find 4 assistants to travel with, one as skinny and tall as myself. DonB! |

David Copperfield has to be the master of illusion and has so many good ones to mention, great wall of china and death saw are fantastic. But has any one seen his escape from an exploding building while locked in the safe, it was without doubt the greatest illusion i have personally ever seen.
