Just a question on what you guys think.
I know everyone has their own performing style/persona etc, but do you not think that a chirpy magician with cards emblazened on their waist coat screams 'tacky' to you? I always think of a magician as a sophisticated, well dressed and presentable person, who people would want to be associated with. That said, a pet hate of mine is people who try to be 'wacky' or 'crazy', when they clearly are not. Dry humour, with humility please. Any thoughts, or am I being harsh. I am of course referring to performances for adults - magic for children is very different. Simon |

Hideous card ties, card vests, card belts and assorted card paraphernalia are indeed incredibly tacky and garish.
However, magicians tend to have a very very bad sense of fashion. And that's not just what they put on for a show. Ever been to a magic convention? And I'm equally sure that all those magicians who wear embarrassing card-wear probably think they look smart, professional and 'magical'. And that is their prerogative. |

Indeed. Awful, isn't it! Many of my non-magic friends often say that they have seen magicians in the past, and think they look (and act) like geeks. Suppose that's what happens when they're locked away in their room for hours on end! (their parents don't believe that they're practising the 'pass'!)

Does it fit the character?
If so loud and tacky might be the way to go. Not magic but: look at the character that 'Matthew Lesko' created to sell BOOKS. kOnO
It is a lot easier to get older than it is to get wiser.
