Hi all...
I just bought my first Glorpy the other day, and although I'm quite aware of how simple and borderline silly it is, I can't help but love the little guy. I was just wondering if any of you may have some routines (other than the usual one) that you'd like to share. Or perhaps maybe give me some resources for some routines. I just want this fella to truly reach his potential. PM me if you feel the need. Thanks! -Reis |

Reis,
Glorpy is a great puppet type act too. He can answer Yes/No questions and count! You'll have to put the words in his mouth! Bob Magic By Sander PS: I sent you personal message with Glorpy patter. |

I have used my old “Glorpy” to find a signed, selected card (Bring the card to the top of the deck and wrap in the handkerchief (using a bit of double back tape) and the spirit/ghost/Genii will find the card and lift it up under the hank for you. It is a simple and fun bit (and looks impromptu).
Bob already mentioned the spirit answering questions. Add a bit of billet reading to the routine and you have a small séance going for you (put the billets into the folded hank and have the spirit answer the “unknown” question then tell you what it is to amaze the spectator). You can interview the spirit to narrow down the question and find the questioner (spirit gives you yes/no answers to your questions). Lately, I have been using my “Glorpy” with a Viking/Collectors Workshop “Haunted Bottle” as an extra proof of the existence of the Genii. I have to recapture the Genii to rebottle it and do so with the handkerchief.

Harry,
I'm going to find my double sided tape again. That is a great idea! Bob The Amazed Wiz |

Glorpy is yet another of those golden effects that are so simple as to be mistaken for "too easy". With some presentation and effort, I think Glorpy is a great bit of magic! I have made large silks with "glorpies" in them and have experimented with really big cloths housing glopy for illusion ideas. Good luck taming your ghost!
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."

Harry, those ideas of yours are exactly along the line I was thinking! I was trying to think of a good way to steal the card... Now I know; double-sided tape! Of course! Thank you so much.
Bob, thanks for the PM. Great line! However, I'll be doing this effect with kids in a hospital (I probably should have mentioned that before), so I think I'll save that for when the gang is all hanging out and I'm feeling saucy! Thanks for the great advice, my friends. I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one here a little taken by this little friendly spirit. |

Glorpy, like all effects, needs a good salesman. If in the back of your mind you think a trick is child's play, it will be perceived as such.
Would you buy a car from a salesman who is against gas engines? Kregg

I'm not really sure what your point is, Kregg. Care to elaborate?

Ahhh... got ya. You make a good point. It is a matter of approach, to be sure. I guess my point was that I was taking this effect too lightly at first until I started seeing its potential. Thanks for going deeper into it, Kregg!

The good-looking women will sit close to you too, just to see Glorpy. He's a close-up kind of guy.

I stumbled across this thread looking for Glorpy information because I just saw it used in a trick called Spectral Silk on Daryl's Fooler Dooler's #2 DVD. He uses it in the same manner as Harry described to find a selected card, only using wax instead of tape. Daryl's handling was pretty entertaining and made me want to look into it further. I think I'm going to get one and try it out

Dang! Now I'm going to have to check out Daryl's handling! I learned the bit from Al Cohen in Washington D.C. back in the day. I went in to buy a new Glorpy prop as mine had finally given up the ghost (sorry, I just had to do that!) and I wanted a new one. Al showed me an array of them then showed me this bit using the one I bought. Out side of Pat Page, Al was the best general magacian I have ever known!

Please excuse my ignorance, but what on earth is "Glorpy"?

Looks like an interesting fun effect. I am not going to ask for secrets (as I know a refusal/removal from forum/punch in the face often offends, but I am intersted in knowing a little bit more about it...
For example - how easy is the reset? do you need to be skilled in thread work or similar? Is it the sort of thing that can be easily carried in the pockets without fear of being damaged by coins/TTs/spare decks of cards/etc? Anything else I should bear in mind?

No threads, no magnets, no TTs. It is instant reset (picking it up and putting it in your pocket resets it), and it is fairly indestructable (fold it into quarters and slide it into your side jacket pocket and it's ready to be reused). Mine is used as a pocket hank with a jacket. coins, color changing knives, and the like will not hurt it.
That help?

Yes it does, thanks. I'll have to keep an eye out for it in the UK. Anyone know anywhere/anyone over here that sells it?
