Hi all, I'm thinking about starting to practise some pickpocketing and am wondering where to start. Preferably a DvD as I've found myself having a difficult time getting all the "weird englishwords" in books. I.e I don't understand some words and that complicates a lot. Would be nice if you could give an advice about a DvD for a beginner. Thank you.

Moi Kim,
Buy James Freedman's "Stealing the Show" available from the producer http://www.magictricks.co.uk and, if I remember correctly, from our local dealer http://www.markkupurho.fi (you have to ask for it). I think it is the best DVD on the subject. Stay away from anything by James Coats, horrible. Unnatural misdirection, some moves are poor, and he istrying to be cool rather than good (just my opinion and not meant to offend the person, just the developed character). For watch stealing go for the Chappy Brazil's "The Watch Steal" video. Absolutely the best! By the way, this is the wrong forum for this. This is for cards. Just a friendly reminder. Pekka |

Hey Kim,
Pekka is right. This is the wrong forum for this. But nevertheless since you have now posted here what I can recommend is Greg Wilson's On the Spot videos. Greg teaches some basic pick pocketing and watch stealing and a whole lot of impromptu magic.

A second vote for "Stealing the Show" and Chappy Brazil's "The Watch Steal" video. I know you said DVD, but Jim Ravel's book "Theatrical Pickpocketing" is also a great source on the subject. Gazzo does a hilarious gag with pick pocketing in his street act, I suggest taking a look at that if you get a chance. If Apollo Robbins shows up in your area make sure you go and see him, I've been told he's one of the best out there. Bob Arno (I hope I spelled that correctly) is another name to look into, he did a heck of an act on Worlds Greatest Magic.
be well, JW |

Don't forget to check out the Carlyle Watch steal in "Stars of Magic". I know it's a book with accompanying language challenges, but is it very well illustrated.
