I'm mostly concerned with the originality last phase...
3 half dollars are removed from a coin purse and changed one by one to copper coins. After each coin changes, it is placed back in the purse. After all have changed, with a snap of the fingers, the coins are dumped back out and all have changed back to half dollars. The coins are inserted back in the purse, which is handed to a spectator. They snap their fingers, and when all of the coins are dumped out, they have changed to CHINESE COINS! No gimmicked coins either.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

I'm quite sure both parts have been done, one being the classic wildcoin from Roth and the other being the purse swindle right out of Bobo's. Has anyone claimed combining these things into a routine as an original accomplishment? Not that I know of.

It's almost a dead on similar routine to one of David Roth's trick in his Expert Coin Magic book.

Originality aside, I'm with Pete Biro on this one. What matters is how magical and fun this is for your audience. That is what magic is for and about, the audience.

NJH,
What you have described reminds of a Mike Gallo routine done with an Okito Box. It's on his The Dynasty Continues video and is called Okito Gone Wild. Very similar idea. |

Sounds similar to a routine by Doug Brewer.

Curtis Kam has a version on P.O.S.
I use it but have only been doing it for about a year. It seems to play well for both lay and magicians. When I first tried the 3 for 3 switch I thought no way. Now I say WAY. Any coin guys going to Boston in a few weeks for the S.A.M. Big Event? I will be there and would love to meet, learn and share with you. Doug's routine "EZ Triple Wildcoin" does use gaffs. It can be found on his DVD or book entitled "The Unexpected Visitor". Good routine that ends clean and resets instantly.
