I have seen a lot of mention of this here. I have no idea what it is. Does anyone know of a video clip where I can see this in action. I understand it is very good and worth doing, I would just like to see it before I start buying books, etc. Thanks for your help...

A long time ago ( 1901? ) a Chinese magician by that name showed a remarkable coin trick where some coins were shown in his left hand, then some coins were shown in his right hand. He made a gesture, and all the coins poured from his right hand. His left hand was empty. The trick was written up and sold in a small booklet. The guy's name stays with us to this day. You are not wasting time or money getting this from its published sources. It's one of the goodies in coin magic.
Later on, Tony Slydini taught his handling to his students in the context of a coins through table. Just a few years later in the 1960s, Presto and later Geoff Latta in NYC did some work on this thing and you can find the latest state of the art description in the book CoinMagic which is now back in print. You can also find the sleight and its context in Lewis Ganson's book The Vernon Book of Magic which is also a good investment. Enjoy the discovery and process of exploring its applications.

Johnny Thompson teaches Hang Ping chien in his Commercial magic set. He teaches it very well and the same move is used with balls and cards as well.

My best recomendation is CoinMagic. One book that is sort of the the next step after Bobo's. The Roth book is another important book, and may be reprinted later this year. If you can get The Vernon Book of Magic it's a trove of goodies.

Besides the above mentioned books I would reccomned The Magic Of Slydini by Lewis Ganson as well. In there you will find Slydin's Coins thru Table. Better yet get the Anotated Magic Of Slydini.

I second that you learn it from "CoinMagic".
To see it in action, there are many videos that use it in their routines like David Stone Basic Coin Magic vol.1 and Jay Sankey's Revolutionary Coin Magic.

Coinmagic looks like a good choice, plus I found what I think to be a great deal on it so I think I will go for that. Still want to see it done though.

Are you anywhere near a magic shop? Is Jason Wethington around your area? Or Paul Diamond? Sorry I don't know who is in your area. This is a standard move you are looking to learn. Most coin guys use it to set up the last coin in a Coins Across routine where the coin winds up in a volunteer's hand. Funny how that caught on. It was a big innovation to the standard routine that Larry Jennings seems to have started.

I don't recognize eother of those names although I have only been here about a year. A look in the phone book yeilds nothing and I believe the nearest magic shop is in Tallahasse, about 100 miles away. Most of my purchasing comes over the internet unless I happen upon a place during my travels.

Hey, rt...2 words - "The Godfather." This move can most certainly be learned from a book, but even better on dvd or in person as Ol' JT is trying to suggest here...But in lieu of all that running around, I would suggest reaching out to Vinny. He's here on this forum. I'm sure he can help you in a real way, beyond that of "go here, go there" suggestions. He's a great and helpful guy, has helped hundreds of people and he'll help you too with this if you merely ask...Wait til you see how easy this all can be when Vinny works his magic for you. Abracadabra! So, folks are sending you to books, shops, etc., good stuff but I say, go to the Godfather. It worked just that simple in the movie, and it will here too. Knock 3 times and whisper "Han ping Chien" backwards...and tell him MB sent'cha.

Hello, both roth and rubinstein teach the move in their dvd's-which you should have if you want to do coin magic.

Not a bad strategy if you just want to see the thing in action... asking someone to make a short video clip and sending it. If you get a clip, ask the person if they would submit the clip to Shane Wiker or the Magic Video Depot (or similar) so the illustration can help others later.

Before I saw the move on a video I never realised just how good it is.
When I read the discription I though it would never work, now its one of my standards when I have to do somethink of the cuff. Its something you MUST learn. |

***And if a clip is Bobo Coin Magic related, try to get it to Malcolm Kavalsky on this forum for the website he recently started in collecting a video clip sampling of what's in the book toward the kind of online immediate video clip illustrations that rt is seeking here in trying to better understand the Hang pin Chien.

Fantastic stuff. I have amazed myself once already. I have a long way to go but see why they call him the Godfather.

Vinny, You da man! I knew you would help rt out here and then some. I only know "good words" to say about a guy that helps so many and shares great magic without restriction and arrogance. Most talk a good game, but you walk it like you talk it - straight-up, no chaser! Again, "You da man!" So let it be said, so let it be written, so let it be done.
*Hey rt, just how much did you have to pay, how far did you have to walk, did you have to beg, bow down or find your way around a maze of "go this ways and that ways"??? No you didn't. You just knocked at the right door and the right kind of guy was behind it. Remember that when someone asks you what seems to be a simple enough question. Knock and it shall be opened unto you. Abracadabra!

Vinny is a great and incredible helpfull guy.
He never stops *inventing* new moves and he never hesitates to let fellow magicians participate in his findings.. TBH, that guy is almost too much He does develop new stuff all the time and he keeps going. In my mind, I call him a *magic machine*, but a nice one of that kind The stuff he develops is always great, but -as I'm a strange guy re performing situations/conditios- I also have to state, that some of his moves sometimes are too angle depending.. Saying that, I haste to tell you, there is nothing wrong with this! A lot of GOOD magic moves and routines are angle depending and used under the right circumstances are incredible deceptive and kill!
Learn a few things well.....this life is not long enough to do everything.....
( Words of wisdom from Albert Goshman ...it paid off for him - it might as well for YOU!!!- My own magic is styled after that motto... ) |
