I am a Master Mason, but I'm located in Canada. I am not very active with the Masons these days due to family and professional committments.

Main reason for this inquiry is I am looking for Magic to learn that would be useful in demonstrating lessons in the Various Masonic teachings, Or just plane good stuff to do in such an enviroment. Any Ideas would be helpful, as I said am new to Magic but always eager to learn.

In each degree, there are various working tools to which you will be introduced. Using those tools to illustrate your points and your magic would be very effective. The best place to perform your magic, however, is not in the body of the lodge - since that is the time and place for work. Instead, save the magic for the festive board, since that is the proper time and place for fun and fellowship.

Hey Dartel! How are you?
I am also a Mason ( from Canada), and I have found an association for masonic magicians. It is called "the invisible lodge", and this is their site: www.invisiblelodge.org Have a good day! Louis Jutras |

Are there any Masons left? Around here they pretty much all died off years ago and most of their Temples have been converted into Office buildings and rental halls. Many of them sold off all their ancient frock coats and odd theatre costumes two deacades or more ago. I don't even think the Shrine circus comes into Seattle anymore.
Sort of sad really but then most fraternal orders these days have a real hard time finding members. We had an Elks lodge here that tried to get me to join a year or two ago but I failed to meet their basic requirements for membership. Not that I really was all that interested in being a member anyway.

Payne,
The answer is : Yes! there are some left. Here in Montreal, there are quite a few at least... If you are interested, I know there is a Grand Lodge in your state... all you have to do is contact them and see what their requirements are. Just PM me and I will send you more info. Have a good day! Louis Jutras |

I am a Master Mason here, also in Connecticut, and I have also been looking into trying to join a local Invisible Lodge for almost 10 years. Most of the time they meet in the midwest, and because I can't travel far, I'm out of luck. They had a website invisiblelodge.org, but that seems to have recently expired and not been renewed (maybe because of the economy). I know there is one in Ohio, but that's the only one I can find. They have had a very rocky history nad leadership changes frequently. Maybe we can start a branch here in Connecticut. I know at least 3 Magic Masons locally.
I would not mind joining some sort of National or International organization as long as they have a newsletter (Trestleboard). If anyone has any further info, please advise. Fraternally, Joe Lantiere Liberty-Continental Lodge # 76 Waterbury, CT |

32nd Degree Mason (Scottish Rite) here, and yes, there are TONS of Freemasons around. As for Lodges in the Seattle area, I'm afraid you are mistaken. I've visited no less than 5 large Lodges in the greater Seattle area over the past 3 years. Freemasonry is alive and well in the Pacific Northwest.
I've seen Masonic magicians before, when I lived in San Diego (where my home Blue Lodge is), and it is a fabulous hobby to bring into your Masonic journey...especially if you choose to take a position in the line, as your 'showmanship' (public speaking, memorization, and personal interaction) skills will be honed at every meeting. By the way, what's with all the Canadian Masons here at the Café? Ya'll got some good networking up there, I guess!

The Invisible Lodge meets at all major magic conventions (IBM, SAM, TAOM, and other regional conventions) and inducts new members at that time. For more information contact Bro. Roger Miller, past IBM president (you can get his email from the IBM website) he is our international president.

We used to hold SCA events at this place and were all sad to see it go as it was one of the larger, cheaper places to rent for a weekend event. We have a lot of little lodges scattered around and it's hard to tell if they are still active or not. Most of the halls look pretty run down and seem as if their glory days are long past. I'm currently writing a paper on conjuring and various "esoteric" orders. I'm finding it to be a wonderful thought exercise, and a conceptual framework for future ritual work, but for the most part it's pure conjecture and speculation on my part...
No, I'm not a mason.

The Iowa Masonic Library is quite near my home. It's located in Cedar Rapids, IA. Fortunately, it is on high ground, so it wasn't flooded last year. It's a very understated but impressive building. You can actually search the catalog online, though rumor has it that they have many more volumes that are top secret.

I am a MM 32 Degree and currently SW of our blue lodge, working my way though the line I will be WM next year. We do have a very active group of Magicians who are Masons here in Ohio. Then again we have a lot of magicians in Ohio period.
