Howzatt the clown is a prop that was given to me quite some time ago...
I have never had a hard time developing a creative kidshow routine around a prop before, but this one has finally got me stumped... Does anyone have a routine or perhaps some creative ideas that could be used with this beautiful prop? It is just such a shame to let such a nice looking prop sit in my collection of props and go unused! ALL ideas are greatly appreciated, Kyle |

I am not familiar with the effect. Perhaps if you explained the effect or could send me a link to where it is listed, I could be able to give you some insight and some creative ideas that might suit you well. It would be my pleasure to help in any way that I can.

HowZatt stands 17" tall and performs amazing magic. Have a person select a card. Put it back in the deck. Place the deck of cards into the clowns hat. Now inflate a balloon and secure it in HowZatt's other hand. All of a sudden HowZatt makes his move and the balloon pops. In his hand is the chosen card. It can even be a signed card. This is a very nicely made stage prop that is colorful and will look great setting on your table. The surprise of the balloon popping and the card appearing always gets a good response from the audience. This was a brief desctription of the prop that I found on the net. Thanks! |

Have a child draw a picture of rabbit on one of the playing cards. Tell the children the howzat will pull a rabbit out of his hat. Nothing happens....
You realise that Howzat will only perform if his been PAID. (this could allow for some nice jokes for the adults.) Since you don't have any money you try to 'bribe' him with a variey of objects that you place in his hand (whatever suits your style, fish, sandwich, dog poo). Eventually you give him a balloon. It pops, you jump in the air and the card appears! |

Awww NOW I remember this. I just forgot the name associated with it. I have seen a friend of mine perform it and it is simply amazing and gets great reactions.
Great ideas there Nicholas. I like how you think. =) I am going to have to give it some thought and see what variations and creative ideas I might be able to help you with that takes it in a different direction. Nothing quite yet comes to mind, but I will give it some thought. Kyle Just thought of a different variation entirely to this. You state that you have a very special guest star here today for the kids. That you are so excited to show them your guest cause he is so famous and fun. Ladies and gentlemen, Boys and girls... cats and dogs.. and small rodents too. oooops got carried away. hehe Presenting the most famous clown in all the world.. the amazing HowZatt. (You motion but there is no clown in sight) Hehehehe (you laugh nervously as you look behind your table.) Um wait a second.. um he said that he only comes out if he gets a big drum roll from all the children. I know it may look silly but let's give it a try. (kids give a drum roll as you make the announcement and present the clown to the audience) TADA the most famous clown in all the world... just as promised. What's that.. did you hear what that young girl said over there.. she said she never heard of the clown HowZatt. HowZatt is the most famous clown......(pause) ... on my street. hehehe (chuckle) Well he is here today cause there is a special person in the audience celebrating a b-day. BUT.. do NOT tell him who it is. See HowZatt is also the world's only mind reading clown. HowZatt will use his great ability to figure out just exactly who the name of the b-day kid is. So what I have done is written down a lot of your names on some cards. To fool him even more I have written even more names like let's see here Gertrude, Penelope, Eva SnodGrass (gets a laugh). We will mix all the names up and place it in his hat. He will have 30 seconds to find the b-day kids name to a thunderous around of applause. BUT... to make it more diffocult we have to make sure HowZatt is NOT cheating. So we will blind fold him. (place a small blindfold, preferably one of the funiest materials or patterns you can find, or scarf over the clowns eyes... look at the adults and say WalMart Special) Now that he can not see, he will amazingly find your card inside of his hat blindfolded. BUT we will need a time keeper for this attempt. So any adult with a watch with a second hand come on up. (they come up front) You have a watch with a second hand.. you do?? oH you are buying second hand watches.. not so sure that is a good idea, hehe I want you to read out every 10 seconds until HowZatt finds the card. ok ready.... GO....(looks nervous as HowZatt is not moving or making any attempt to find the card... You look pouzzled as the Jeapordy theme song begins to play) Ok Ok I give up. Perhaps HowZatt is not the greatest clown of all time. But he would like to make our helper a balloon animal. So we will just find a balloon here and give it a stretch (stretch it out until it snaps back and hits your nose.. physical comedy.. use at discretion of ages of the kids) I will place it in his hand and he will amke a balloon animal to amaze everyone. Ok .. Go.... um he is um concentrating on what to make.. yeah that's it. um.. ok maybe not.. (look nervous) oh he made um a Basketball (orange Balloon... balloon pops suddenyl revealing one card. Well folks we have had a lot of fun and HoZatt may not be the most special person here today.. why??? Because even he knows the most special person here today has a name of (turn card around in the clowns hand) Billy!!! Just a very very rough idea with concepts off the top of my head. It certainly needs to be polished and smoothed out but perhaps it might spark some ideas for yourself or others. Kyle

Thank you guys so much for your suggestions!
Now I have some great ideas flowing! I am going to incorporate both of your ideas and add a few jokes as I form the complete routine. I am finally able to use this once useless prop! Thanks again, Kyle Jarrard |

The best routine I found for this prop is one done by BJ Hickman, and I do know he also sells this prop. You might have to email him about it bj@bjhickman.com
