To be more specific:

Which came first, the chicken or chicken egg?

Pterodactyls.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I've a many curious things to show when you are there.

Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair
-can ne'er come down again.

Or, to be even more specific:

Which came first, the millions of cells that comprise the chicken, or the single cell that comprises the chicken egg?

Gee, I'm stumped.

You need a standard for comparison. Therefore you need both a chicken, in order to compare the thing you wish to call a chicken, and an egg, to compare the thing you wish to call an egg. Sorry it's a non-trivial problem. There are lots of eggs around, so you don't need the chicken for that comparison in the standard version of the riddle. However in this version you also need the Chicken Egg to compare against. Oh well. This problem does not have a halting condition. Oops.

Open to better suggestions.

Examine the science carefully. Obviously the egg predates the chicken, as there were dinosaurs laying eggs long before the first chicken...

However, the question was phrased with proper scientific precision to wonder about the chicken or the chicken's egg....

The answer must, by definition of the question, be the chicken. No other creature on earth is capable of laying a "chicken's egg" except a chicken. So to you sticklers who want an explanation of where that chicken came from...

The answer is obvious. It was born via mutation from an egg laid by something that was not quite a chicken, and hence laid a not quite a chickens egg. The fact that the chicken was born form it, need not bother anyone.'

Have a nice day, I'll send you my bill. (Not my chicken's bill either)

There's a very funny cartoon that shows a chicken and an egg laying in bed and it's obvious that they just had sex... and one of them is saying, "Well, that answers that." Smile

Not quite on that one. Safer to go with the comparison argument. You can'd know if x is an X unless you have the standard X to compare against.

If frog legs taste like chicken, what exactly is oriental flavor supposed to taste like?

As the million cells that comprise the chicken were including the cells that comprises the chicken egg, the chicken and the chicken egg came at the same time.
