One tip along these lines I learned way back when I actually was performing is to keep my ears peeled for good info while I'm not engaged in conversation. If you listen carefully you can sometimes get a persons life story in a few minutes without them having even yet noticed you. Put that info into an impromptu mentalism routine and you've really got something. I can't remember how many I was able to use that to my advantage and it was the most memorable part of the act. When you get a freebie like that you can commit to 100% performance.

A couple of things here.
I was on my way to get a haircut. The barbers were playing cards on the front desk. I thought I would just be funny. The main part of the deck was available. I said do you think I could cut to an ace. Without waiting I reached over, cut the cards and it was an ace. I looked at them confidently to take advantage of this. They looked at me as if I were dead meat. Oh well! Another was for a magician. I was showing him the card in pocket from Stars of Magic. The one where you put the card in ahead of time and missname it when you pull it out only half way. This guy was so afraid that I really did get his signed card to my pocket he walked away before I could continue the trick. He must have been really blown away and I didn't do anything. Al
Magic Al. Say it fast and it is magical.

About two nights ago, I was doing some street magic for some people and did Osterlind's Challeng Mind Reading effect. The card that the lady thought of was the 7 of Hearts. I named the card and as always it blows them away. Immediately after that, I handed a deck of cards to the same lady and asked her to shuffle them to her heart's content and then select one from the face down deck that she was holding. She pulls from the middle of the pack and low and behold she grabbed the 7 of Hearts! I played that up for all it was worth claiming that she must have some kind of ability that she has yet to hone. She freaked out because this all happened in her hands and all that I was trying to do was get her to select any random card for an ambitious card routine. :o)

Wow, I've never been as lucky as to guess the card they were thinking of multiple times, let alone once!

This is what happened last Thursday.
I was sitting in a Youth Room inside of the Community Center. And my friends wanted to see some magic. We all had a hard day, and they wanted some stress relievers. I really couldn't think of anything else, not being able to practice much over due to all the tests. So I just asked one of them - Think of any card. just any one. I was holding the deck face up. "Got one?" "K got one" Swoosh, the pass- and the shock on her face... hahaha I'll never forget it. The best part came right after when someone else begged to do it on her so very reluctantly while saying it probably wont work becuse Im too tired, I didit to her as well. Op, I hit it again whats the chance. really, 1/52 * 1/52. That was one h*ll of a good day for me xD |

We all need to post these incredible stories in the thread that is titled "Card magic Sucks" (Under the card magic section of the Café!)

Psychological Mindreading is quite good for certain instances. Most of the time they don't work, but you should always have an out.
Here's an example Have someone name a card. Perhaps it is on top or bottom of the deck. If not, no worries, just go into your ambitious card routine with that card that they named. |

Hey, Kenley, we're both from Calgary!
Once I got my sister to think I could read minds by having her shuffle up three cards in any order and then I would pick the two of spades everytime. She never noticed the bent corner on the card.
For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, none will suffice.
A magician is an actor playing the part of a magician. Don't run when no-one's chasing you. |

One time I forgot the the sign of the the card I forced. I remember it was red. I tried to find the card. I was told I was wrong. I asked what it was. I told them it could not be that card as I looked for it. I told them that could not be the they have selected because it is not in the deck. I secretly palmed the cald off the deck. As he was looking for it I went in his shirt pocket and took out the palmed card. Everyone laughed as he look baffeled.
