Those of you who do cigarette magic, do you find that it is unhealthy for your body? Or is there a way to make it fine, such as not inhaling any smoke? Any thoughts?
You know you are a magician when you have boxes full of lecture notes you have never read, but still are excited about going out and buying more.

Good idea if you don't inhale the tobacco smoke you will only get cancer of the mouth.

Nah...these things are jam packed with vitamins and minerals. Go ahead and smoke up.
Just kidding and seriously, I've dropped ALL cigs from my manipulation act. For one, laws are prohibiting smoking in most public places. Recently the city of Dallas passed a ban on smoking in ALL restaurants and the list of prohibited places is growing. With the ever increasing health consciousness of the general public, cigs are fast becoming a real turn-off. Find something else to produce, vanish, multiply, and manipulate in general. |

I guess you could always use the bubble gum cigars. It is a healthy, tasty aletrnative. Give it a thought.

I still think they've got it all wrong. Everyone in my family of over 5 generations were heavy smokers, and although there's only me and cousin Ed left now (Ed's just been told he's got a tumour on his lung but that doesn't necessarily mean it was caused with smoking)we ain't gonna' quite for nobody.

Cigarette smoke is worse for the audience because of the second hand smoke. I had an uncle who died from lung cancer and never smoked but he was around the smoke of others at the bars where he drank.
I gave up smoking over 25 years ago and am glad I did.

You don't have to light the cigarette to manipulate it

There are many routines using idea that turn a cigarette to other thing(s)...which teaches us not to smoke!

It isn't part of my main act, but if I can build an edge while on break, I certainly don't want to lose it. But lit cigarette magic certainly isn't healthy for me. But not a concern for the audience. I know of an extremely good preformer *coughJOHNBLAKEcough* who does a cigarette through coin, and then goes on to say, "...and if it did that to this coin, imagine what it could do to your lungs..."
