My, oh my, oh my. The force is strong in this young Jedi. Very smooth work. Pleasure to watch. You're obviously not part of the "no skilled required" school. Got a feeling I'll be buying a DVD from you soon.

HAHAH Penguin was on my mind as well...
Very good routine....well constructed...make sure you have variety though so even to layman its not the same vanishes over and over

You changed the music. That would have been my first suggestion.
I'm going to have to play with the sequence for any suggestions to pop up. I like the fact that the vanishes look the same but are accomplished differently. The last complete vanish stone fooled me. If you didn't change the routine at all, it would be fine as is. I just ordered Shoot in Hollywood - I thought I had all his stuff - on the strength of your clip. So when I get it and mess with the vanishes a bit something might spring to mind. I like the Jonathan's copper/silver idea. Right now I'm wondering how the production of more coins could be worked into this followed by a complete vanish of all. |

Cool. I'll try and work on something with a sunmoon coin. You'll find theres a really cool 3 coin routine called 'Nerd'. It uses a bunch of neat sleights.. I'm working on it now. I'm somewhat flattered you bought a DVD on the strength of my clip...you'll really enjoy the DVD I'm sure.

I have one suggestion, maybe show more of the coin just before you do the wither vanish. I've seen quite a lot of videos by people who do the wither vanish and they all seem to only show half of the coin. When I do the wither vanish I try to show as much of the coin as possible when I hold it, so that it's not as obvious as to how it disappears. But this is more of a personal preference I guess.

If you want to get real nitpicky (I dunno if that's spelled correctly) you may want to try and see if you can get your middle finger and thumb to form more of a "C" shape. In the video your middle finger points down rather sharply. By making that C shape it looks more like you're holding a coin that isn't there, rather than just showing the coin just dissapeared.

The vanishes looked really good. I think the finesse point discussed by Jordini above would make them look even better. The vanishes looked much more magical than the reproductions.
Nice, you have obviously put in a lot of work. K |

K,
I was thinking the same thing, about the vanishes being so much better done than the reproductions. Actually, the reproductions gave away how the vanishes were done, especially with the repetition of it. Still BP did an admirable job. Can't help but think about how Mickey Silver handles the repetition in demonstrating his SUV...No matter how many times you watch him do that thing, you never (at least I never) see him expose where that coin goes or doesn't goes. On one of his vids, he's quite careful when showing the vanish over and over to always after each vanish to reach back into his pocket to get another coin. Did you notice that, he's anticipating his audiences perspective and line of logic as they watch. I realize that what BP is doing might not be along the exact same lines, but I actually see him reproduce the coin a couple of times from where it was hidden, very clearly seen too. Since folks here are offering a sprinkling of advice with all the praise, I would say check Mickey Silver's stuff on the presentation side of things and then keep up the good work kid.

Yes JT, I read it, but by his responses it didn't seem to imply that he felt anything was particularly wrong in how well or not well he was doing the vanishes and reproductions. BP seemed to hear your advice as more of a procedural thing in bettering the routine of what he was doing, not how well he was doing it. Most here said it was great but only K (and maybe another poster or 2) spoke specifically toward what was not as strong in the way of accomplishing the effects. I pointed him toward Mickey Silver because through his dvds, he shows a a strong sense and consideration of what a trick looks like and how it's perceived, how well it looks to spectators and even to magicians. Anyway JT, maybe we're barking up the same tree with this, that is toward being helpful.
Again, I say to BP...Keep up the good work kid, it can only get better and it's already pretty good. ***Hey BP, I always like watching this guy perform this one coin routine...It has such flow to it and magical style and finesse. The guys good, real good! Imagine if he threw some "Shoot" in there... Let me know your thoughts. http://magicvideodepot.com/view.php?a=v&t=1960

You guys are right. I keep forgetting that folks have not gotten the idea yet that when you vanish something it's supposed to either stay gone, or go somewhere. The "stay gone" option was discussed a couple of years ago in a nice story-post about doing magic for layman.

Ben, just be proud, that was an excellent one coin routine - thumps up. I'm deeply impressed. Great visual opener as a one coin routine whne you approach a table.
I can see Jonathan got you thinking in terms of a multiple coin routine - way to go - can't wait to see that. Oh, I also liked the way you credited the originators and your inspiration in the end of the video. Push it to the limit, and milk it for all the miracles you can. Remember to keep it simple, just like it is now, also when moving into a multiple coin routine. |

Yeah very well done, I do suggest you work on the production of the coin;i think a production of a coin should be almost or the same as when you vanish a coin, yeah it is important as well. to my mind.
good luck with the multiple coin routine, it should be fun to watch. peace out there. Mano T. |

In the joy of doing, it is very easy to forget that the effect is what counts.
What seems to vanish into thin air is usually best left there, or found elsewhere, lest the audience come to suspect you of cleverly hiding things in your hands. Such a suspicion can some back to bite you when you least expect to be caught. From the effect side, it helps to be very clear about what is happening. Without that clear vision of a magical effect, one is likely running the risk of doing some sort of dance routine. When in doubt, check by running your video against a dance song. If you are vogueing with a coin... is really your choice... so strike a pose. :)

Jeez! Give the kid a break! He obviously put a lot of work into that routine.
I remember when I was a teenager and a friend worked very hard at a multiplying billiard ball routine without the *****. He showed it at a club meeting and the only response was some old guy saying "Hey, kid, didn't you ever hear of a *****?" The point is, the routine wasn't meant for laymen; it was meant to show his skill to the club members.

I don't think anyone is picking on him. I believe they're complimenting him. His work is worth thinking about and writing about. These posts are the normal comments you'd hear during any "session." All have made clear that his skill is more than exceptional and have encouraged him to continue.
