Newton was also an astrologer, and argued for its validity. There must be some ideas for a transmutation presentation in the alchemy stuff.

Hmmmm. That has a spellbound or wild coin presentation written all over it. Perfect for the right crowd. I can see Max Maven and Eugene Burger selling the heck out of it if they haven't already.

Newton was a well known intellectual and studied what was called Natural Philosophy. It may well be that he also authored the policy to force Ireland to exchange it's gold coins for copper, a policy that is the subject of a pamphlet by Jonathan Swift. And there you have two connections between Spellbound or Wildcoin and Newton.

Charlie be nice. The fellow was good enough to read some of the article and bring it to our attention.
Perhaps we could fake up a Newton souding book on astrology and how universal gravitaion has a spiritual componant with something like the inverse square law acting ....

Sir Isaac Newton studied astrology as a young man as well as astronomy. It may be a bit of overstatement to call him an "astrologer" given the present assumptions about astrology. He never recanted his belief later in life but is not known to have actively practiced it either. Remember the period and the assumptions of much of the culture.
http://www.ishalerner.com/home/is1/listitems/15/0 It is a little known but established fact found in numerous places. Google it sometime.

Euangelion, thank you for that link. I could not remember with whom Sir Isaac was arguing when he replied "I have studied the subject, Mr. Halley, and you have not." Now I know.

To study is not to practice...and that is my point...with a cherry on top. |

Charlie, that maybe trying to argue too much the other way. I, absolutely, agree with you that studying something is not being a practitioner, however, there is more than ample evidence that Newton had more than a passing acquaintance with its practice. He appears to have attributed it to forces such as gravity. Again we must not place modern understandings of these issues on a period where they did not apply and science had not addressed them. Newton was, also, Anglican but he rejected trinitarianism although he never left the Anglican church.
And now back to the magic.

His physics does read about the same as a book on magic.
Just change a few words and you may as well have something out of Lovecraft. What stuck me was is rational take on the universe. It is the way it is. No will or room for intervention of outside will. You can add in the "will of whatever" via cut and paste to complete the Lovecraft treatment.
