Thanks for the swift response Jonathan. I agree that signing might slow down the momentum. On the other hand , signing the coin solidifies the "miracle". It cancels out the possibilities of dupes etc...
Then again , I might be thinking like a magician again. The signed version is more for fellow magicians, I guess. I have been doing this a little over a year now and although it has had success , I feel something is missing. I really appreciate your inputs. Please go on. Rannie

Perhaps not perfect for coins, there's simply no cleaner way to do a transposition of a signed object than with a TT and duplicate item. Hands down my favorite effect. I like it because you can tell the spectator exactly what you're going to do before you do it. And there's no suspicious moves at all. Nothing, to me, could look more like real magic.
Try this: An empty pack of cigarettes or card case sits on the restaurant table. Have spectator sign an Equal packet. Tell them you're going to make the Equal vanish enitrely from your hands and reappear in the cigarette box which will remain in their view the entire time. With sleeves rolled up, you make the Equal completely vanish right in front of their faces. Cleanly, with empty hands, you very fairly flip open the cigarette pack with just your fingertips. Inside is an Equal packet. Pull it out and give it to them to check signature. Impossibly, it's the same packet they just saw in your hands. While I did think of this myself, it's clearly as old as the invention of the TT. But surprisingly I never see magicians doing this. It's by far the most draw-dropping effect I can do. No, it's not a coin, but I challenge anyone to come up with a cleaner, not to mention easier and more impromptu, method.

Platt,
I'm sure that plays extremely well! You could even combine that idea with Scotty York's. You'd show a cigarette box empty, vanish a coin (using the TT), vanish a sugar packet (using the same TT), open the cigarette box to reveal the Equal packet inside, and then have the spectator open the Equal packet to find the coin inside. I think Trapped/Fire Trap is a great effect. I had people tell me that I would be disapointed with it because of setup, and I love it. I set up 5-6 at a time. This takes less than ten minutes and the setup will last for weeks or even months if not used that night. The setup can be carried in inside jacket pocket or on back pocket, but remember actual "signed!" coin winds up in matches packet...It amazes me too that so few consider this a staple. |

On the marked coin idea... I found some notes from Curtis Kam, circa 1983 called "Stuff" which includes an item called "Quarterback Sneak". Have a look, you might like what you find.

Pete Biro's right. The Poor Man's Safe by Gaetan Bloom using the Porper Strongbox is both baffling and entertaining. The audiences love it.

What! ... a 2005 post revived?
The best routine I have seen and owned was a nest of cardboard slide boxes. Each box was secured with several elastic bands in all directions. The coin was eventually found inside a small cloth bag - fastened with an elastic band - which was itself found inside the last slide box. Although we all know the method - this item was truly a "must have". If only I had the skills to make it myself, but I don't. Does anyone know where this can be purchased today? |
