Happy 4th. of July everyone.
I did two shows yesterday & have couple of more this weekend. Being the holiday it is, I brought out my new appearing flagpole as the climax to mismade flag. I gotta tell you, it went over BIG! The difficulty was that in the first show one of the threads holding the flag to the ferrules came apart. 2nd show was in 45 minutes. I tied the threads back together so that it would hold. This of course was the top ferrule, the top of the flag. Okay, repair accomplished. 2nd show: I whip out the flag pole and it does not open right. It still makes a big impression (having a DJ play stars & stripes forever when it opens is a big help. I highly recommend it!) Any way, turns out that now the top two sets of threads have given way. I spread the thing out on the dining room table last night and tried to figure out how to repair it. Simply retying the threads will not hold. Any Ideas? Recommendations? Bob? Hugh? HELP!! At this point I may go back to using the original flag from the set and try to get someone with more experience sewing to do it. Unfortunately, I can’t get to her till after the weekend. I am very concerned that anything I do will ruin the large, light weight flag used with the flag pole. Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bruce The non-sewing magician

Silk edge should be reinforced with ribbon. Then tie through it with fishing line.

Thanks Richard,
I am terrified of ruining the flag. Should it be done a machine or only by hand? What type of stitch is used? The "lady @ the drycleaners" does cufs and hems. would this be very different. It would be expensive to replace the flag. As always, thank you for sharing your wisdom Bruce

Machine stitch either two narrow ribbons (about 1") or a large ribbon folded in half. Just do a straight stitch. You are putting the strain on the ribbon not the silk. I always reinforce any flagstaff silk and some large production silk. I had to rebuild a 4x6 Rice flag that all four corners had been pulled out. I even had to make another star for the field. It is worth the time and trouble to reinforce it rather than repair it believe me.

Other than Abbott, which I'm still waiting for an e-mail reply, are there any providers of the hand-held 7 ft. telescopic flag pole alone? I only want the flag pole (ex. Mikame) as I'm using a different colored flag for this purpose.

General Grant makes a very good seven foot pole. Do a search on the Café as I posted his information.
Abbott's is sometimes out of stock on the flagstaffs. It takes quite a bit to make them up. I have a good used on but it has a silk mounted on it. If you get in a real jam, I could take the silk off it but I would prefer to sell it with the silk. Richard
