Don Alan made two sizes and gave me both... unfortunately one of them sat out near a window and is faded... but they really work for things like the chop cup, bowl, etc.

I have the Don Alan mat, but the problem is it has no rubber underbase and a tendency to slip. On the table surface, when I spread the cards on it, it goes the way my hand goes ......

I use wetsuit material I buy from http://www.ahh.biz/products/Neoprene_Wetsuit_Material.htm. You can find wetsuits material which is typically made from material that is either 100% Neoprene, or a blend of Neoprene and Butyl rubber. The sponge is the middle layer, and the surface consists of stretchable nylon.

I wouldn't recommend neoprene if you are doing cups and balls. I have been having problems with my neoprene mat not having enough friction and the balls "running away".

I like Bill's suggestion of headliner material. Just one point of clarification, the material labeled "headliner" material at the fabric store is not what the factory uses. The factory headliners are actually made of a veneer of fiberglass and felt type material. My first job as an adult was in a factory making them Smile

Harold's link no longer works. Patrick is, as he said, a very nice fellow and his mat's are excellent.

He makes superb mats! I know at FFFF, he gave the Gene Anderson and Dan Garrett customised closeup mats that had their name on it! He'll make anything in mats. And, he's a really nice guy!

Bye for now

Harold

Go with Patrick's mats. I agree. One of the nicest, most cooperative guys in the magic mat business besides making great mats.

Patrick's mats are great, and if you need a traditional ball dropper, his is one of the best.

I recently obtained a Tony Clark Victorian close-up pad. It looks great, is very classy, and built really well. It works great both with cards and with the shell game.
