I have a question how many years was it around? How many issues are there? Is anybody planning on putting them all in one big book? Where can you find them?

I think it was only around for a couple of years. I have four copies from the first volume, and each of those months gave me at least routine that I was able to use professionally (and I continue to use them 19 years after they were published).
I believe that there were some financial issues that impacted the publishing schedule of MAJ towards the end ... maybe those issues have made Fleischer and Ammar leery to sink any more money into this project ?

There were about two years of issues, with lots of interesting stuff in it. Some issues were book-quality...the Paul Harris issue, and the Doc Eason bar magic issue are the two I think of off the top of my head.
According to Steve Pelligrino on Magic Rants, Steve scanned the entire run for Mike Ammar, and Ammar will be selling it as a download from his website. This should be one of the better publications to come out this year (along with Workers as an ebook.) Jeff |

I subscribed to MAJ right away. I loved the material, but, as I recall, "publishing schedule" problems were there pretty much from the beginning. It was fantastic publication but you never knew if and when it was coming and it was rarely on time and often way late. It lost me and likely many other subscribers as a result.

I just came across this old thread looking for something else. But since the thread ended before the full story was given I thought I'd add what I know in the interest of completeness.
I subscribed to MAJ and received every issue published. From what I remember (and this may not be completely correct), Fleischer left and Ammar was left with responsibility to publish by himself. Many magic magazines would have just ended the publication under the circumstance and kept whatever money had been paid for unpublished issues (it's happened more than once). Rather than end the publication, Ammar attempted to keep it going at least long enough to publish all the issues subscribers had paid for. When it became too much work and he had to bring it to an end, he did something that is very uncommon for defunct magic magazines. He offered subscribers a refund for the issues that would never be published and sent them either cash or the equivalent amount in his other products. The first issue was August 1986 and a new issue was published almost every month until July 1987 (there were 2 double issues covering 2 months each and they had 29 pages instead of the usual 18). Publication resumed in Feb 1988 thru Apr 1988. This was followed at irregular issues over the next couple of years by (these issues don't have a date on the cover and I don't remember exactly when each was published): A triple issue including Ammar's Cups and Balls routine. A double issue with various contributors. The Aspen Bar Magic issue featuring a number of Doc Eason's effects along with contributions by Bob Sheets, Steve Spill, Tom Mullica, Eric Mead and others. The final issue was the Paul Harris 'The Act' triple issue- which in addition to the Paul Harris material was notable for Eric Mead's 'A Night At The Improv' and Stefan Schutzer's 'The Self Folding Bill' (which appeared as a dealers item at several conventions I attended shortly after this issue was published). |

The MAJ was a great publication, unfortunately, I only got a couple used issues. I hope Michael Ammar will either put them in a bound book or as a downloadable format, I'd like to get the rest of the issues that I don't have.

I consider it the best maoney I ever spent on any magic periodical. I was an original subscriber and collected the entire set. I was greatly saddened when MAJ passed, and certainly think that it would be worth resurrection as a hardback collection. The difficulty in doing so may be that many of the effects have since appeared in other locations.

A lot of the material in MAJ has since appeared in other books and DVDs. Like the ETMCM & ETMMM series.

I noticed Ammar's site has the first issue of MAJ as a downloadable format. Maybe if enough people e-mail him with interest in the rest of the issues, he may put the rest of them online.

I would love to see all of the issues together in one hardbound book.
