Yes he did ..I'm not kidding. It was some kind of conspiracy from the beginning I just know it.
First he builds this georgeous theatre and lures me in with promises of a great meal and an even better show. So I go to Niagara Falls, buy a ticket and got a great meal and an even better show featuring fantastic illusions, georgeous girls ( YOWZA!! ) and top notch showmanship. Oh...but he's a clever one he is...as you're leaving the theatre you're further tempted by DVD's and other goodies for sale. $15 for a quality T-Shirt with the theatre's logo on it .....I couldn't resist...he's evil I tell you. So I buy the thing and there he is...all smug and friendly talking to people in the lobby. His weapon of choice is a magic marker ( no pun intended ) and he strikes!!!! He signs my shirt and totally ruins any chance of me ever wearing the thing. Now it's off to my magic collection drawer to join the ranks of my first Copperfield ticket, Lances Program and other goodies......but as a wearable shirt ...its ruined!!!....THANKS GREG!!!! No really....thanks Greg. A job well done. Take a bow. http://www.gregfrewintheatre.com Best, Tim |

Someone beat me to it! It's about time someone built a theatre in Canada for a magician to headline in.
I have been blessed with the gift of a free car from a friend next week....I think I'll DEFINITELY have to go check this out. Perhaps stacking a table full of local magicians would be fun... Thanks for the post Tim! -Chris

Tim,
What kind of stuff did he perform in the show? AND...can you clarify exactly what you mean by "YOWZA" ? ( besides the ovious ) Nathan |

I don't want to give any secrets away and spoil any surprises for anyone but lets just say this. During dinner (before the show) I was commenting to the others magicians at my table that as a magician I always see the sleights and moves leading up to a production so I am never surprised by them. Sad to say but true. I can admire technique but loose the impact of the surprise. I also mentioned that the first time I saw Gregs act years ago ( part of Murray Hatfields tour ) I was misdirected by Greg several times and " He got me!" ..BOOM out of the blue...a production and I didn't see it coming. that's a real thrill for a magician to be fooled like that. My hopes were that I'd be fooled again and I wasn't disappointed. BAM...he got me big time.
There was one point as well that he did something that is normally very obvious to magicians and I watched it happen but was so occupied with what was going on stage...I FORGOT what was really happening, got totally suckered and BOOM...we ( the entire table ) were totally caught off guard. See the show and see what I mean for yourself. Regards "YOWZA"...the ovious part is that the girls really were knockouts and that I changed my mind several times during the show which one was the most beautiful....but the YOWZA was in regards to a costume that one of the girls wore that made me ask Greg after the show if a " Wardrobe Malfunction" happened or if it was part of the show....Not that I was complaining! It was part of the show it turns out. Don't get me wrong....the show IS fine for kids. Anyone else see the show? Best, Tim |

So how about a mini review of the show????????????
What is the ticket cost? How long is the actual show? Is it 100% Greg, or are there supporting acts? Are you able to give an idea of some of the routines/illusions performed? Blair Marshall "ShaZzam!"

The show itself was $40 CDN funds. $20 for kids. Dinner was an additional $20 or $9 for kids. The gourmet meal was excellent and included dessert. Softdrinks were $1.50. I highly recommend the dinner for the $20. Great taste and good portions.
The theatre was beautiful. You can see a photo here http://www.gregfrewintheatre.com He opens and closes with " classic frewin " routines. High energy productions and manipulations. The show never stops and moves right from one effect to another. Its ovious several set designs were built just for this show and certainly look it. ( very nice ) The illusions consisted of large scale box effects but before you think...." seen that before" remember that Greg always puts his own spin on things. His OWN cloaked transposition effect is performed ( somebody help me with the name here ) and it blew me away. I'd seen it on television and never really appreciated it until I saw it live. Its got to be amoung the smoothest transpositions done in magic. That one can't be ruined by revealing that is done in the show. Magicians will only appreciate it more because its flawless and catching the move is impossible. Showmanship is rated at 100%...5 stars. The theatre is still way underpromoted in my view and audience levels were low. Greg however played like it was a packed house. The response from the audience was great for the attendance. ( c'mon magicians ...lets get the word out on this place ) A closeup routine using a 30ft screen was excellent. Bright screen and in focus. It wowed the crowd and if you see it make sure to look for a little move Greg does just for magicians towards the end. You'll of course recognise what he is doing but appreciate the skill and hopefully catch the additional move. Twister was missing but will be added soon as well as a 12 person vanish. One negative.....and a small one at that. Clips from Gregs wooden crate escape were shown on the large screen at one point during the show and the video was a little grainy. ( most likely recorded on a 2 head VCR ) If anyone has a cleaner copy of the "Champions of Magic" special filmed in Monaco I'm sure Greg would appreciate a DVD copy of it. That's all I want to say so I don't give away the fun I had. Best, Tim |

Hopefully Greg will have some video or show photos on his website soon so people can get a taste of what to look forward to. Here is a webpage with a good photo of one of the illusions and the "YOWZA" times 6. Its a cool optical illusion...if you look real hard you can even see Greg standing on the middle.

It wasn't that Greg ruined your T-shirt, it was that he had a devious plan for you to purchase 2 of them (one signed, one to wear)! He's a clever man.

I did feel stupid after leaving the theatre. At $15 bucks I SHOULD have purchased a second one to wear. Especially when the cheesy " Niagara Falls" T-Shirts found at all those tacky souvenier shops downtown were selling for $25 to $35.
Not to fear...I'll get a second one the next time I see Gregs show. By the way...can anyone tell me the name of Gregs custom transposition ( morph ) effect? I think I heard "Shroud" or something similar. Best, Tim |

Friday the 5th of august I will be in Niagara Falls and visiting Greg Frewin.
All the way from Europe to do some rollercoasters and Frewin´s show. I have no doubt that his show is a great one. Thanks Timothy for some info. The first time I saw him do his Transitions I just simply jumped out of my seat, couldn´t believe it!! I mean, you know how it is done but that speed is truly magic!! EVI |

Hi Erik,
I just had this wild idea. Chris Stolz mentioned he was also interested in seeing the show and so did Blair Marshall and I'm sure many others would interested. Why don't the members of the Café get together on Friday Aug. 5th I'd be a hoot to get as many members and magicians as possible to show up, have dinner together, meet in person and then sit back and enjoy the show. It's also be a great way to show Greg some support in his new venture. I'd make a great photo wouldn't it? We'd all pose in a big group shot with Greg after the show and then post it here in the Café. Howz about it...... CALLING ALL MAGICIIANS WITHIN TRAVELLING DISTANCE TO NIAGARA FALLS. Friday Aug. 5th , 2005 it is at the Greg Frewin Dinner Theatre. Dinner is at 6:30. Show is at 8:00 If you are interested please post here and let me know and I'll add you to the list of attendees. You can also email me but posting here will let other Café Members see that YOU are going and if they like you ( hope you didn't flame anyone lately ) maybe they will all attend as well. Don't let this chance pass by. It could really be a lot of fun. The official list starts now... ----------------------------------------------------------------- List of magicians attending ( Aug. 5th ,2005 ) at the GFDT includes: Timothy Drake, and ......... and........ Sorry about that I have to be in Ottawa for some shows at that time. But think it is a great idea!!!
Magicians should also try to support other performers (Note: And also pay for their tickets.) Hope you get a good group together. I do hope those that go will also applaud. Nothing like having a couple of rows of magicians who after a great effect, and while the audience (lay folks) are applauding, busy themselves with the back and forth whispering on how it is done, or asking the other magicians next to them, how it is done. Go, sit back and enjoy, give Greg the big round of applause he deserves for bringing magic to the general (paying) public!!!!!!!!! I had Greg on a show down here many years ago, and my son had a great time with him. He had seen Greg at the Quebec City IBM "international" convention. And was blown away by his act. He also found that Greg was a great, down to earth guy. He deserves all the success he has coming to him!! Blair Marshall "ShaZzam!"

Here is is flipping burgers at a march break camp that teachs magic to beginners in the art. They guy is on the verge of opening a 20 million dollar theatre and he's taking the time to help kids lean magic...thats dedication. You won't see this photo in his press kit..ha ha http://www.sorcerers-safari.com/march_br......b_32.htm Best, Tim P.S. Steve..I was just about to post and saw yours. Great to hear the Sorcerers Safari group will make a trip to the show. |
