Whit,
Two Docs and a Reverand on your list, nothing like education to inspire confidence, eh? Yours, Dr. Wilson |

When I was a kid performing magic, my brother used to ask people if they had ever heard of "The Amazing Kreskin," and then he'd introduce me as "The Annoying Larry." Don't you love siblings?

Sounds better than "Frank with Balls that Stick" Starsini.

How abouy Louis L. McCoy -- "Doc" McCoy. He never got caught. I knew him.
He was almost like the Great Pretender. When I first met him in Houston, he had insinuated himself into the local Rosicrucian Society chapter. He had a number of homemade awards from AMORC. They looked good, but were definitely done by using copper foil and a ruler. (1959) He worked part time at the local magic shop. Claimed to have been a Zen Buddhist monk in Tibet, and knew some of the "secret" fighting arts. His story began to fall apart. He moved to Galveston and leeched off a widow. He took her for about $50K and moved to Beeville, where he practiced as a pharmacist without a license. About the time he was going to get busted, he disappeared. Louis was a heck of a card man, and an artist in the excrement of the mail bovine who has been totally unparalleled. I never saw him after he left our area, but in 1975, I almost ran into him at the IBM convention in Little Rock. My wife told me she had seen him on the shuttle bus. He spotted her name tag, and asked if she was related to me. When she said she was my wife, he "remembered" something he had left behind, and left the bus. I told her he had split town. He had. I learned that he was practicing as an ophthalmologist in Tucson. This was interesting, because he wasn't even a doctor. He passed away a few years later. I ran into his nephew a few years ago at a close-up show I was doing. He 'lowed as to how Louis was the bane of their family. But he never got caught.

After looking at Whit Haydn's picture I think his name must certainly be included. Great character Whit, I love the hat! If I saw Whit on the street performing Three Card Monte or Three Shells Game I'd be very afraid to bet any money.

Nonsense! Look at that honest face! You can tell I would never take unfair advantage of even the simplest country rube. You can trust me like a bridge. Honesty is my middle name. I have a sterling reputation as both a man of integrity and a true patriot...

I suspect that you would not make this list if people did not trust you enough to bet with you.
