If cards is for you then ESP cards and Tarot card routines may be a good place to start.
To get a better idea about it you can read some of Peter Marucci's bizarre tales here. http://www.online-visions.com/bizarre/ |

Sounds like it is time to but some books or dvd’s. For me bizarre is more about the story telling and less about the trick. Many Magic tricks can be adapted to bizarre or spooky stories. And mentalism and bizarre can be two totally different type of magic. I would suggest reading some Eugene Burger books (or dvd’s) for the bizarre. The book Prism has some great mentalism stuff from Max Maven even though it is reprints of older material. You are use to cards so think about the moves you already know and try to come up with stories with Tarot cards using some of the moves you use for other effect you are now performing. Or just a weird way to find that selected card. A chickens foot maybe?
Good luck to you |

( I posted something on this ) Why does the scotch and soda trick work with ONLY those coins? When you find the what behind the why, you have found the bizarre.

I just started doing a cool bizarre type effect with regular playing card called "Sole Survivor" from the book Magic and Meaning by Eugene Burger and Robert Neale. It’s Bob Neale’s effect and I think he put it out in another book of his own. I’ve gotten good reactions with it. |

Get a copy of "Magic and Meaning" for a different reason. The whole exploration of the issues of magic will help you understand the use of magic and its fit into life in culture. Reflecting on that is where the power of magic is in all forms and will help any piece of bizarre magic to have its weight.

Reading Death and Resurrection Show would also be a good start. As others have said, almost any magic "trick" can be made bizarre if the back story is compelling.
