In the ad I noticed, it is foreworded by none other than Uri Geller! I thought he didn't want to be associated with magic???
Anybody knows? 'nuther question: Not being from U.K, I, and surely many others, are not very familiar with Mr Berglas. So, if you were to compare his magic/mentalism with anyone as far as effects go, (i.e.. not performance style) whose effects would you say it has similarities to? Mr Becker? Mr Barrie Richardson? Mr Maven? Mr Knepper?.... Thanks! |

David Berglas was a top professional all his working life until he retired. He played top dates in the UK and Europe (he speaks six languages).
He will fool you badly with things you already know and is an expert on the use of audience psychology. There will always be discussion about who is the best but there is absolutely no doubt that Berglas ranks up there with the best and can hold his own with anyone. |

Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

Is there anyone who has the book who can confirm the effect "Any card at any number" is it fully explained in the book and also practicable? Thanks!

Hello Friends,
I fortunately know Mr. Berglas since many many years personally. Years ago he did a private lecture in my home and it was more than sensational. Mr. Berglas´ unique effects were very well received by all the mentalists and magicians, which where present. His signature trick "Any Card At Any Number" he performed at least six times. I can tell you, we all had no clue. Mr. Berglas is FANTASTIC and how good he is proves also, that Mr. Steinmeyer wrote and published the book. I phoned Mr. Berglas yesterday to get an autographed copy of the book. I am sure, that it will be a GREAT one! ESPecially and MAGICally TED LESLEY

...if you were to compare his magic/mentalism with anyone as far as effects go Let me clarify the above: What I mean is not "how good" he is compared to anyone. What I mean is what kind his effects mainly are of in the following respects: Mainly 'Mentalism' or 'Mental Magic' or 'Psychic'. Does he also do 'Regular Magic' and anything else? (Of particular interest is for example if minimizing the amount of props and having them look 'natural' is a great concern for him or not) Mainly Stage or close-up or a mix or... Mainly Gaffs or moves or linguistic or... Substantial amounts of pre show? I know he is especially known for his Any Card at Any Number. Should I interpret this as that he is very much into cards? Ok, I think you get the picture. It would be very(!) kind if anyone could compare him to other performers in these perspectives. Many of us are kind of in the dark here. Sincere thanks in advance! |

I have just been searching Google to see if I could get a copy of the book cheaper somewhere (sadly not!) and I came across this page which is worth reading - concise but very interesting background info about David's life.

I find it interesting that Geller wrote the forward for the Berglas book. I have an audio tape interview that was done with Mr. Berglas when Uri was at the top of his form. In that interview Mr.Berglas didn't have anything good to say about Geller. The times they are a changin'..
Also, as I understand it David Berglas never claimed any "powers", in fact he claimed just the opposite, I believe. Also, he freely mixed magic and mentalism in his programs, much to the chagrin of the purists.Ted Lesley does similar programs today and is a very successful and respected performer. I've said it before and I'll say it again..I think the only people who are concerned about mixing magic and mentalism are the performers themselves..to the audience..it really doesn't matter. Best thoughts, John Smetana |

For those interested, I am the first official reviewer of the book, having received a preview copy from Mr. Steinmeyer about a month ago to read and review for KJmagic. You can check out my detailed review at: http://www.kjmagic.com/board/reviews/

Thanks Andy for the review, and it seems some effets in the advertisment are not fully explained and like "Any card at any number" is also not given away the actual method. what a pity! So is it the misdirection of adv which says all the secrets are in the book? I will still wait for it comes to me but will not be excitied any more until I learn something else from it.

I should restate what I said in the review--my comments about there being other methods to the effect that David doesn't tip are merely speculation. He could just be really lucky, or, as I said, it could be that we've only heard the successes and not the misses.
That said, the method he details is entirely workable, and complete in and of itself. It's just that it won't fit in a mentalism performance (personally I never felt the effect fit in a mentalism performance anyway, but this method definitely won't fly there, at least not reliably), and it's not necessarily as clean cut as legend says. Then again, when a legend is built through "eyewitness accounts" over such a period of time, is it ever possible to live up to the legend? Anyway, it may very well be the actual method, and that's certainly what Berglas and Britland imply; my suspicion, however, is that he's still got something up his sleeve as far as that effect goes. Regardless, the book is killer, and a must have, in my opinion. I couldn't put it down when I started reading it, and read over 500 pages in about five days, cover to cover. BTW, two specific things I didn't get a chance to mention in the review: first, his "Think of a Card", which has some very nice insight in it; second, his magic square presentations, which are wayyyyyy cool if that's your sort of thing. And there's tons of other good stuff here, too. But, like I said, if you're buying it for the tricks, you're buying it for the wrong reason. The tricks are really just real world examples of the more important lessons the book has to share. --Andy
