Kinda changin the direction of this thread.....
I saw Copperfield a couple of years ago and was turned off by some of his presentations. As a comedian myself, I've gotten in trouble so many times about being inappropriate, I even went to court over my language once. With that being said, I've become more sensitive to the audience. David's audience was over 50% children, ofcourse, he's our #1 magician. His one line referring to "King Kong's Condom", the part when he was "fingering" the girls underwear, and then the lesbian bed sequence, just completely turned me off to him. If anyone should know better.....

Well, I wrote an email to Lance Burton's fanmail address and have yet to receive a response. Hopefully, I will.
I agree about Blue Man Group. That's an excellent show. It will soon conclude its run at the Luxor, then open again in the Venetian several months later. --Jack |

Me and my dad went down to Vegas last October and both of us left the Lance Burton show in disbelief. It was probably the worst show either of us had ever seen. I hope it was just an off night. And yes, he started off with a really short butchered version of his Dove Act. It was sad. I was a huge fan of Lance Burton when I first saw his spot on the Paul Daniels show. I realize that time has past and it's good to keep current - but when we saw Lance - he just phone it in.
Go to Blue Man group Though - that is one of the greatest shows ever. |

It is unfortunate to hear others are reporting the same thing. I'd hate to have to go back and spend another $72 in order to check and see if his dove act is shorter at all shows. I got the idea that the whole performance was lacking energy... which is why I am also really hoping it was just an off night.

I remember my last trip to Vegas. This was before Lance moved into his own theatre.
I tipped the doorman an extra $20 and was seated dead center in the front row. When Valvaldi's " The Four Seasons" began to play all the hairs on the back of my neck stood up as I knew I was going to see that fantasic dove act.... live. I had studied it over and over on video and knew it all by heart. I knew every move in it and knew when to expect a bird to be produced. It STILL floored me. The shear artistry of it was overwelming. Its sad to hear its being cut down so much. Best, Tim |

Later I was told his show was 'entirely' scripted and thought that was even worse than an 'impromptu' slur. |

Just an idea. It seems that ONLY time DC uses a teleprompter is in the Lotto Routine which I have seen and never really paid much attention to. But maybe the reason he uses it is for the information that is given. Not for script purposes. There is a lot of numbers birthdays and so forth that is given. So that just helps him to remind himself so he doesn't say the wrong thing.
Just an idea. But for Lances show. I have not seen it. Didn't he have a new show built for him?? Michael

Well as an update-
I heard back from a producer of the Lance Burton show and she wrote me a very kind letter in response to my inquiry about the shortened dove act. Indeed, the changes are permanent. The show must be kept to 90 minutes, and some of the other new illusions added lately are longer than the ones they replace. So, the opener was cut. I returned with another letter once again voicing my concern that this is a bad decision. --Jack |

I can't believe that Lance would cut short his dove act. In his words "That is the act that has been paying his rent for the past 20 years." If he did, then he is becoming way to commercial.

I must agree that I am disappointed in Lance's decision to cut down his dove act. But I do understand it.
He needed to rotate in some new illusions to freshen up the shows for the paying public. Unfortunately, magicians don't pay his bills. Not that he does not respect and appreciate magicians (he most certainly does as evidenced by the reply letter mentioned earlier in this topic). Maybe as he works the the new illusions they will become tighter and more of the dove act can be reinserted. It is a very tough market in Vegas right now. Give Lance credit that though he has a guarenteed contract, he is working to keep his show at the top of the game. I suggest that if you really have concrete objctions that you write constructive letter to Lance. I know he reads them and values everyone's opinion. Richard

I saw his show 3 weeks ago and loved the changes. Talking to him after the 10:00PM show, I also asked why the cards were removed. He said the show ran 92 minutes and he likes to be right at 90. He said the show runs better as he goes into the airline routine. The "Magic Zone" was great and fooled me bad. He had a 14 year old Japaneese girl come on stage and she knew no english. I was wondering how he was going to handle this. It was amazing...He seperated the men from the boys! I thought the show flowed better than ever.

I saw the show last week and the dove work is cut short. The rest of the show was great.

Mr. Dennis,
How did you get the opportunity to meet Lance after the show? I have been several times, and have never seenhim come out to meet the fans. |

RSD,
Lance is a friend from my hometown of Louisville KY. He kindly headlined our annual club fundraiser in Sept. Not only did he pack the house, but also donated many posters and dvd's for our club to sell. |

If you e-mail his manager and tell him what show you will be at you can set something up - but it has to be pre arranged -
