I've just heard that former Café regular Rick Silmser passed away last weekend. Many of us will have known him for his abrasive chutzpah and forthright views here on the Café. Whilst I can't say I was very fond of the man having had my differences of opinion with him he was undoubtedly passionate about mentalism and escapology and in the end that is something we had in common. My condolences go out to his wife and family.

That's really sad news. May he rest in peace.

This is definetely a shocker for me. Like Don, I too had my differences in opinion with him, but either way as Don said (I'm a man of few words, what can I say?) he was definetely passionate about mentalism, this being of course where I was familiar with him. Definetely a loss.

Thanks! Scott B.

I'm very saddened to hear of this. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.
He emailed me recently after leaving the Café, there was no mention of any ill health at that time.

I understand from a friend of Rick that he died suddenly of a heart attack.

I was shocked to hear this news.

I read many of Ricks posts and I always admired his integrity.

The thing that sticks in my mind most, however, was his openness in talking on here about his love and admiration for his wife Em.

Absolutely shocking... He was very helpful to me both on and off this forum. He was sometimes controversial, but he was one of a kind, who freely shared his knowledge and experience. He was way too young to go, and I'll really miss him. Tragic news.

Shocked here too....It really is sad. Life is soooo short. You always got a straight answer from Rick, wheather you liked it or not. So it was a heart attack? Anyone know any other details?

Very sudden and very sad. I only knew him via the Café and his emails offering to share ideas, and found him outgoing and generous. Whatever his personality, you can't deny his enthusiasm and love for his art.

Many Sympathies go out to his family. Let's not forget the Dunninger stories he shared on the Café.

My condolences to Rick's family. I find when ever I read the name of Dunninger, I always think of Rick.
