A compilation of his comments could make an insightful book! Some people try to keep everything they know secret, some give it on freely. We were very lucky to have a passionate, scratchy, experienced and opinionated personality like his on the Café. We were also lucky to have access to his thinking.
Another good one gone. So it goes. Sympathies to his family...anyone have an address for cards? The family might like to know how many were affected by his thinking, might treasure notes and cards.
We dance an invisible dance to music they cannot hear.

No! Why?
My sisincere condolences to Rick's family. He had his own style, passion, love for mentalism. So strong that he attracts many Café members. I want to talk on mentalism, billets, Danninger with him again. |

Rick had his opinions, yet he was always open and freely taught his secrets to those who wanted to learn. My prayers are with him and his family.

No matter how many heads butt here, I think that we all are in a Brotherhood of sorts. I'm very saddened to lose anyone on this Café'...Rick had sent me some cool Dunninger stuff and really made me think.

Is this true? What a drag. I kind of liked watching Rick go back and forth with the guys in this area and in the Inner thoughts area. Even gave him the needle myself one time after he posted about a Baker Slate routine. (Remember, a real mentalist would never use a "toy" like a baker slate. LOL) He had very definite views about the way he presented mentalism. What a shame. How old a man was he?
Rest in Peace.

Wow, this is a shock. My thoughts are with his family in this difficult time. I too have had a few spats with "The Master Billet Reader" here, but it was all in good fun. I didn't even know his health was bad. He shall be missed. May his soul rest in peace.

I was honoured that Rick wrote to me, asking for a signed publicity shot. After that, we had a few e-mails batting back and forth. Abrasive, he may have been to some, but I was only ever treated to a gentleman. It's come as a bit of a shock, I have to say.

My deepest sympathies to Rick's loved ones, especially his wife.
Many of Rick's posts here, especially those recounting his visits to Joseph Dunninger's home and interactions with the famous mentalist's widow, will always be cherished by many here, I'm sure.

I just drop by here occasionally. But in the short time that I spend here, his posts caught my attention, and I thought he had a lot of useful and accurate things to say. What sad news.
I just did a search of his posts. Two months ago he said in a post that he was 48 years old. |

Gosh, very sad. Rick even emailed me some good stuff before. Rick was always having fun here and I never did take anything he said as being offensive in anyway.
I always enjoyed his post and his funny website. Im feeling sad as I read this, prayers going up.

For the record, here is Rick's obituary from the Cornwall Standard Freeholder.
RICHARD JOHN SILMSER October 10, 1956 ~ July 22, 2005 With sadness, Raymond (Martha) Lyn and Robin announce the death of their brother Richard on Friday July 22. Predeceased by parents Dick and Connie. Richard also leaves his beloved companion Martine of Gatineau Quebec. Richie will always be remembered for his good humour and nature. He lived the way he wanted to and enjoyed doing it. He is missed and will always be loved and remembered with a smile. At Richard's request a private family service will be held. Peace Richie

I only shared a few private emails with Rick, but in the short time that I was aware of him I learned a lot from him, mostly about life and how to live it. He will be missed...

Here's a related topic. I never met Rick but had many E-mail conversations with him. He always spoke his mind and stuck to his guns regardless of the outcome. We had our differences and it got him into trouble once or twice here on the Café but I considered him a friend and will miss our conversations.
