Hi,
I am going to visit Helsinki and Stockholm in this summer. If I have enough time during my travel, I want to visit some of the magic spot(magic shop or magic bar etc..) in these cities. Would you mind recommending any ones there? Thanks in advance Tomoo

Well, there is not too much happening at the moment. We just had a wonderful lecture by Dani DaOrtiz, and in the audience there where a rather highly ranked magicians such as Christian Engblom, Robert Jägerhorn, and Lennart Green. It was truly a magical night.
But I think that was this summer's magic event Helsinki, the next big, actually a huge one, will be the "International Magic Show" where Max Maven, Marko Karvo, Norman Nielsen, Finn Jon, Tina Lennert, and Robert Jägernhorn will be performing. That show will be here for a week but it will not be on until October. The first tuesday of every month is a magic gathering day at the local restaurant right by the city centre. And there is a magic corner, with no demonstrations or any magicians, in one carneval shop, Aprilli, at the Kaisaniemi underground station. Well worth a look, few nice books, decks, and every once in a while worthy trick or two. But when are you coming? |

Pekka, Thanks for responding.
I am going to visit Helsinki at the Saturday night - august, 13th. And I will stay in Finland for about only 4 days. During my staying, I also want to visit other town in Finland. My profession is architect and I want to see the works of world famous Alvar Aalto. So I have very limited time in this travel. Thank you that you gave me some valuable information. Provably I will go that carneval shop you tought. Best Tomoo

Well, your days will be book then. Aalto's work are scattered around the country pretty well. You may want to travel to Turku (2 hours by train) to see Aalto's first functionalistic design, Turun Sanomat Headquarters. That was not, however, the first functionalist design that was build. Near Turku is Paimio (30 minutes) that has the hospital he designed and, if memory serves me correct, it was his first functionalist desing he got built.

Last week I travelled from Helsinki to Stockholm on a Silya (sp.?) Line ship that had magician Jean Dark performing for about 30 minutes "Street Magic" mostly cards, very good in difficult circumstances. Later in the Night Club a 20 minute act of mainly Doves and Silk Supreme that also had dancers, good. At midnight, illusions but I did not see that.
