You can get a silk fountain from Richard Hughes from Hughes Magic or Duane Laflin Laflin Magic. Expect to pay $100 - $200 USD.

Thanks for the help guys. Wow 200 dollars that's more than I thought. How many silks does it have with it and can the effect be made. I don't know much about it.

Hi! Richard Hughes' stuff is high quality. If you're not looking to spend as much then I would recommend the silk fountain by Dazzling Magic. It's only $95 and has the following features: "14 pure silks, 18” square. Silks are 8 momme weight, to withstand hard usage. The hems are double turned, sewn flat, not cheap, flimsy hems. The silk bundle is held with a ribbon, with velcro release, and a large bead to find the release quickly and easily." Here is the link:
http://www.dazzlingmagic.com/silk_magic_3.htm I have their fountain of silks with dove production. The colors and quality of the silk are great. I think it's much better than the one sold by Laflin Magic for the same price. Also, Dazzling Magic is more than willing to make you one in a specific color combination, if so desired. Jimmy

I don't know how well they are, but... Here are some ideas:
1) http://www.themagicwarehouse.com sells a silk fountain for around 17 dollars I believe (althought I don't know about the quality) 2) http://www.daytonamagic.com sells silk fountains for about 30 dollars (again quality is a ?) 3) Make your own: a) Buy silks and make your own (www.daytonamagic.com sells 18'' silks for 3 dollars each) b) Buy plain fabric and make your own silks and then make the silkfountain If you have any questions or need help in construction of one (if you decide to build one) let me know (send me a PM) |

I'm going to chime in on this one. I have been using a silk fountain in my act for over 25 years. I have added a few refinements for the years that I found necessary to keep it working.
Dazzling Magic (Marty and Brenda) and I are all friends. We were in the same IBM ring and went to Kent State together. Duane and Mary are friends also. I am sure that we all think or product is the best. And whatever you use if it works for you, your needs and your budget, great go for it. Two thoughts though. I do not like velcro around silk in any way. It can snag the silk. Also I do a lot of custom silk dyeing for fountains. I make Dale Salwak's silks for his fountain of 60 silks. There are at least 5 or 6 shades of blue and purple in each set. But most guys do have the need nor want to pay for that type or size of fountain. I make a traditional and a neon color fountain as standards but I can certainly do something custom if needed. Richard

Wow, the price for the silk fountain at Dazzling Magic is better now.
I remember paying US$295.00 or US$315.00 PLUS Shipping for the Original Fountain of Silks with Tie-Dyed Silk and Dove by Gene Elmo (Under Dazzling Magic) many years back.... a beauty, now the price drop to US$195.00. Not sure if Gene Elmo built mine. If so, then it must be a collector item now. he he Anyone want to buy it? Oh yes, Richard did nice silk works too. I bought at least 4 to yellow silks scarves for my bird act (very nice dye & made). Check out his Devil Hanks too. I own 2 of them. They’re great! I have yet to see his silk fountain. If I got a chance, maybe I would buy it Oh yes, in my (personal view), I don't suggest getting the Silk Fountain By Rainho because they are sewn the wrong way (not criss-crossed) and not beautiful when produced. Also the dove load is rather small and uses a zipper. hmm Remember, I paid US$100.00 for it...sigh Oh Yes, Peter of P& A Silks also did silk fountain too. But his price is rather expensive. You might want to check it out. Also General Grant has a very beautiful silk fountain using many, many diamond silks, a beauty and the price is reasonable. I hope this helps Warmest Regards doveboy |

I have a better clip for the silk fountain. I made a strap that would go around the fountain but instead of just going in a loop, I have 3 pieces of ribbon going evenly spaded around (all attached together at one end). Then two of the ends are sewed together and have a magnet inside it. The other remaining strap also has a magnet in it. I just attach the whole thing around and it works like a DREAM!

I have been using 2 bands of paper criss crossed for about 6 years now.... never had a problem and it takes 20 seconds to put it on and 0 to break though and open the fountain. Any body else use a system like this ?

I'm sorry but I just do not trust a magnet or paper to hold my silk fountain. It has just too much pressure to hold it shut with it.

It is big but the best part is it still not that bad to fold up. I have found that 14 silks give me the effect I want. Especially when I am using 36" silks.
Now Dale Salwak uses 60 of custom shades I make. It is gorgeous but mine works for me. Richard

Two Words. Daytona Magic. They sell a really nice fountain of silks for an extremely reasonable price and also in it is a place for a dove to be produced. Just go to search, and type fountain of silks. It should come up. The link is http://www.daytonamagic.com
thanks, Nick |

If you look here http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......76&6 I am selling one. I learned how to manke my own from the Secrets Of Silk Magic Volume one from Laflin Magic.
You know you are a magician when you have boxes full of lecture notes you have never read, but still are excited about going out and buying more.

I have one made by Peter White. It was not cheap but it is top quality. With good care it should last a lot longer than the "bargain" silk fountains. I'm sure Mr. Hughes fountain is high quality too, as all of his products are. Avoid the temptation to go cheap, it is rarely worth it in the long run. You don't want your fountain to fall apart when it counts.
