Some of the best "classic" plans are available from Osborne Illusion Systems in Texas. You can't treat the dimensions as gospel but they are, in general, very clear. Check Genii or MAGIC for the address.
Abbott's plans and copies of the old Thayer plans are still out there and make a good base knowledge but all are seriously dated in their choices of materials and design. Study them and then go your own way. A number of good young designers have put out new books in the last few years which can give you some ideas but there is no guarantee they will give you permission to build their designs. It doesn't hurt to ask, of course.
