I'd like to offer a free Halloween Magic Show the last week of October in conjunction with National Magic Week. Of course, I am after some terrific free publicity by doing a publicity stunt (straight jacket, 100 foot rope escape...not sure yet)in addtion to press coverage for the show.
Any suggestions of specific organizations to approach about this idea? I can approach some local organizations, but I'd like to hook up with a local chapter of a well-known national organization. Has anyone got experience with this type of event and promotion? Any and all ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. |

Find out if there’s a haunted house type attraction operating in your area during this time. It's possible, and some of these are sponsored by local well known groups. This would be an idea place for something like this and they would welcome and help with the publicity.

Straitjacket and 100 ft. of rope...something that's been done by umpteen thousand magician/escape artists.
The key to getting GREAT publicity is giving the media an ORIGINAL story. Find something to break the mold; it doesn't have to be back-breaking either, just imaginative. Steve

What is this "National Magic Week" anyways?
Also, what about something Halloween themed? (I'm not much for ideas yet, the caffine hasn't kicked in yet) |

Understand one thing please. If your doing the show for free your not getting free publicity. Many misunderstand this concept. Like when Sprint gives you 400 FREE minutes a month if you pay 29.99.
You may be able to sell the fund raiser idea easier as a third party fund raiser. The Red Cross does a LOT of this type of thing. You then donate a portion of the take. You also get paid this way. If you want to do charity work, understand this can actually pay quite well if you let it. You may not get taken seriously if you offer free. What can it possibly be worth if it is FREE? that is the thought process. Good Luck Danny

Amen! Look what David Blaine got out of the buried alive bit. A week of NATIONAL NEWS coverage - front page newspaper articles - etc - etc - etc Why? Because he didn't do the same old same old! If he went around doing SJ and ropes who'd care? And you wouldn't have to do it for a week either - do it for say...3 days. As an homage to Houdini. Azrael

It's a great time to get that free morning show publicity. http://www.magicsam.com/magicweek.html Azrael
