I like his sleights a bit more than his effects. This is not to say that Marlo did not come up with great effects, but his thinking on the mechanics of cards is truly staggering.
On that note, I love Touch Turn, and its many variations.

There is a chapter in Marlo's Magazine Vol.1 on page 197 called "Improved Procedure for the Invisible Toss".
(Check the index in the Unexpected Card Book. It is there...) Greetings, Denis |

I like and use "The Spectator Removes 'Em" from MM#6 within the context of a larger routine. It's a real killer!

This is an excellent thread. But always worth remembering that what is commercial for one is not always commercial for another, ability and style of the performer can lift tricks considerably.
However, there is such an amazing amount of material to choose from, for anyone to dismiss Marlo material as uncommercial is short sighted in the extreme. Paul. |

I always love the Devilish Miracle.
I think his $B!H(BFemale$B!I(B is also good. Very commercial.

Is this a specific effect or are you referring to his clock work material overall?

On Oct 26, 2002, kermitthefrog wrote: Kermit, Marlo did publish many effects that are well within reach of average card workers. Not all of his work is difficult. Marlo could appreciate a subtlety and would use it in place of sleights if it made sense and improved the trick. However, he is perhaps best known for his amazing chops and the ability to perform knuckle-busting moves like a walk in the park. His contribution to card magic is legendary. To know where to begin is difficult. One approach is to begin at the beginning. You can easily find Marlo's early works on https://www.conjuringarchive.com/ among other places. If you just want to dive in and get a ton of Marlo material in one place then Revolutionary Card Technique is a good choice. It will keep you busy for years, maybe for a lifetime.

I would say if you're intimidated by Marlo, the two best places to start would be The Cardician and Marlo Without Tears. The former contains a number of Marlo classics and some of his very best work. The latter, true to its title, focuses on Marlo's self-working and less knuckle-busting material. Although it does contain a few intriguing sleights to keep you busy.
Revolutionary Card Technique is phenomenal, but its main focus is, naturally, technique. There are supporting tricks (many of them very good), but they tend to take a backseat. |
